85.0. "Getting an ATM, what it takes..." by BINKLY::WINSTON (Jeff Winston (Hudson, MA)) Wed Jan 20 1988 11:17

DCU has had an ATM sitting in a box in the HLO facility (Hudson, MA)
for about 3-4 months now, waiting to install it in the site, preferably
in the HLO2 lobby, as the branch is in HLO1. Talking to DCU and
Security people, I have heard a number of explanations for the delay,
some plausible, some not so plausible. But it appears simply that the
DCU people don't have the access, or the skill in the "DIGITAL way of
getting things done" (which I wouldn't expect them to), and no one in
DIGITAL is taking initiative for driving it through. The DCU branch
manager here (an exemplary person to deal with) is quite frustrated,
as from her perspective, she feels brushed aside by the various
DIGITAL organizations. I have tried to help, but admit that my own
'pull' with facilities is zilch. I am putting this note here in the
hope that someone reading it has the interest and/or the pull to help
bring this situation to a conclusion.

From the way I understand it, what's holding it up are the second
level issues surrounding the exact location in the lobby. The
following is one-sided rumor - presented to give the powers-that-be a
sense of what's going on: One location was approved but it backed up on
some office, the occupant complained, and DCU was told to wait until
its group moved. The group moved this month, then DCU was told that
the lobby wasn't going to be open 24hrs/day anymore - which isn't
true. It must stay manned because it contains the fire control
station. One proposal was to rebuild the receptionist area into the
ATM cubbyhole, but then it was decided they still needed that area.
So they decided to move it to the HL01 lobby, but (I'm told) Bob
Palmer (V.P. in charge of SCO - which is what HL is) decreed it should
be in HL2...and thus it goes on...

The lobby is quite large, and it appears to me that some corner of it
can be appropriated and built properly without aesthetic harm, but
someone needs to drive it.

[I admit I haven't heard facilities part of it, and there may be good
reasons for the delay - however, I would then encourage those that
understand the reasons to communicate with the DCU branch manager]

I have now been told by security that a location in the lobby has been
chosen (accessable to non-employees) and the ATM will be installed in
a couple of weeks...

Thanks to anyone who helped this
