83.0. "When will we get our statements?" by JUNIOR::JOUBERT () Mon Jan 18 1988 14:47

This is not a new comment, it has been made by others a number of
times. However, the reasons/excuses notwithstanding, this level
of customer satisfaction/service is, from my perspective, one of
    we (DCU) don't give a hoot (D___).

Here it is the 18th of Jan and neither I nor my wife have received
our December statements. What the he__ gives??? The comment I
got from our DCU in the sky is that it was the end of the year,
they had to print the 1099's, etc. SO WHAT!!! The DCU is on a
VAX, the cutoff was not later than 31 DEC 87 and Federal Express
has overnight delivery. Add to that the printing is apparently
done on laser printers and I fail to grasp the song and dance routine
that they are in the mail.

Botttom line: Why don't we have our statements in a timely fashion,
month in, month out????? Try investigating some other vendor
who has the customer as its number one goal. And, if it isn't being
done, put a penalty clause in the contract of whoever the vendor
is so that it will cost the vendor if the statements are nor in
the mail nlt the 7th calendar day of the month. Keep in mind we
are not still working with hand written ledgers, etc. Also, is
it true that the current vendor is using less than state of the
    art hardware (DEC 10)??

Just give us prompt service. Keep the statements on time. Be
competitive. Do what is right by the customer.

I must agree 100%. My last bank got my statement to me within 2 days
after month's end which is how long it takes the mail to be delivered. My last
bank also mailed me my cancelled checks for no extra cost (but I guess that
isn't the issue here).

I spoke to a teller last week who said the statements were put into
the mail on the 11th (a week ago last monday), but I don't think they mail
them all at once. Since mail wasn't delivered yesterday, perhaps they'll
arrive today?

Chuck (who is waiting for DCU statements so he can do his taxes)

p.s.	my last bank was marine midland in NY
83.2Update Easy Touch to give us some of this info!FROST::EDSONDTue Jan 19 1988 13:468
This is the reason I wrote note 78 about being able to find out
interest over the Easy Touch phone system. I don't like to wait
that long for the statement! I'm sure it's the US Mail that's
delaying them! :-) It'll be interesting to see if the January
statement beats the December statement to my mail box!

This is specifically addressed to John Tilley. Please in detail
relate the specifics as you told them to me on the phone for the
long delay in getting the statements out to the members for the
    month of December.

So as not to cause a lot of wonderment as to what I am talking about
the reasons John gave me are enough to make your hair stand on end.
A lot of just plain ineptness on someones part. A lot of hard
questions should be asked of the management of DCU and the vendor
    who processes our statements.

83.4SALEM::RIEUWed Jan 20 1988 09:183
Well, we are now 2/3 of the way through the month and STILL no
word from management. These people just don't CARE!
                                                                Denny
83.5Down so long, looks like up to me....MDVAX1::MCGUIREMike McGuire, St. LouisWed Jan 20 1988 10:0210
My November statement didn't arrive at all. I called and had one
resent (no charge, so they are reasonable about that) but I had
become so accustomed to late statements, that I hadn't noticed it
was missing. A local CU has just gone community (I think that's
the right term) so I may now join because I live there. I may have
to switch. I don't want to, because I have been with DCU since it
    started.

    Sad.

83.6How much does this cost us/CRAIG::YANKESThu Jan 21 1988 10:1217

This is perhaps a silly question, but why does DCU use another
vendor to send out the statements? With the volume that we do (when
they *do* send out the statements, that is ;-), it seems that the
expense of setting up our own printers and envelope folders/stuffers
    would be quickly made up.

Just how much do _we_ pay for DCU to use this other vendor?

    set mode/dreaming

Also, hmmm, I wonder if DCU could just NMAIL it to us over the
network... I'd prefer it on the system rather than being one more
piece of mail coming in at home! Might as well save on the postage
*and* the printing costs. Of course, DCU isn't Digital and so there
might be an "outside people accessing our network" problem along
    with system security issues.

Re .6 - I know you "set mode/dreaming" about sending statement
information via EASYnet. Before anyone else thinks that's
a great idea, I'd like to point out that a fair number
of DCU members are not Digital employees. For example,
former employees can keep their DCU accounts. Relatives
of employees can be members - my three-year-old son, and
my mother-in-law are two that spring to mind.

    Re: .7

You're right, I forgot about the non-employees. Since some internal
people would also prefer to get theirs at home, I'm sure that there
would have to be an option on the account to denote how the monthly
reports are sent out. Of course, given the state of DCU's software
as amptly described in other notes, the phrase "be an option" would
    kill the idea right there!

The answer I received this morning from the DCU Customer Service
dept was "They went out last week, but some probably didn't hit
the mail til this week (i.e. Monday)." Somehow it doesn't seem worth
the effort to feel angry at this point; my expectations of DCU have
sunk so low, nothing they do will disappoint me.
83.15Don't blame the DCU for everything!DR::BLINNHe's not a real Doctor..Fri Jan 22 1988 16:189
Remember, beyond a certain point, mailing the DCU statements
is beyond the DCU's control. It's done by a subcontractor.

As for mailing statements electronically or allowing some sort
of dial-in access, there may be limitations in the laws around
credit unions that prevent the former, and I'm not sure that
it makes sense to spend DCU money on the latter.

The statements are run and mailed out of Hartford, CT. The only
things that I know of that are mailed out of the DCU Headquartes
(or any of the branched I might add..) are receipts for deposits,
loan information, and the much requested statements (for times like
this). BTW, we (Jim (EXIT26::STRATTON), myself and our son) received

    re .9
Tom, I would like to differ with you in relation to your statement
that the situation is beyond DCU - they have a subcontractor

They have the responsibility to select the vender and to manage
that vender. If they are not happy with the vender ( and they
certainly should not be happy) they they are not being responsible
if they continue to allow this to happen.

There seems to be a pattern in that it is always somebody else's
    fault.

Since we have recently received a few "official responses", perhaps we can get
one on this issue. The fact that statements are always mailed 1-2 weeks after
the end of the month is one of the most frustrating characterstics of having
an account with DCU. I can see no reason for this and would like to hear an
acknowledgement of the problem and resolution to improve the delay in
receiving our statements.

You're amazing. Now you are telling us that you know all the
experiences that all the noters in this conference have had. Must
be nice to be omniscient like that. I know that the comments I have
written in this file have been based on lots of experience with
other financial institutions. I'm not in the habit of making critical
comments about something without having any basis for the comments.

Do you have anything concrete to say or will you keep baraging us
with "the DCU is great - how can you people possibly complain".
If you read the notes in this conference you will see that most comments
made here are based on legitimate gripes and problems with the DCU.
Sure, there are other financial organizations that are worse than
the DCU, but that is no excuse for the DCU to be anything less than
they can be. That is why we put our comments here. To try and improve
an organization that could use improving.

I used to work at a bank where statements were sent out
at different times during the month - they didn't all go
out at the beginning of the month.

As I recall, an individual's schedule was based on when
the account was opened. If you opened your account in
the middle of the month, for example, that's about when
        you'd get your statement.

I'd like to see DCU start something like this. I even

I don't think this would do any good. Access to your monthly statement
is only available via the mail. If you're talking about just getting

Not that I could remember. It was a white 2-window envelope,
the only way I knew the statement was there was because I open
all my mail immediately, then file it appropriately after.
The statement was behind the tax form.
