An experience of mine happened a few weeks ago (9/21) while I was making a withdrawal from a thrid-party ATM machine, specifically a Monec machine located at a Bank of Boston. The machine accepted my personal identification successfully, started to process my withdrawal, but then froze with a message on the screen requesting me to remove my card, but it was not returned, neither was my withdrawal. Since the machine was obviously (to me that is) in a state of confusion I was worried about leaving with the possibilty that after I left my cash and/or card would appear. From what I've been told (Bank of Boston personnel) some machines drop the money down into a slot within the machine when there's problems. Soon after I called the a Bank of Boston "24" hour hotline number which is only intended for VISA/Mastercard inquires, and reached a security guard who said to call the following morning. I called and had the hardest time trying to find out what I should do. Finally I found someone who said that a courier would deliver the card to my residence after I gave them the necessary information. I called DCU and they said that was wrong, the card would be returned to them and I would be issued a new card. One week later, much to my surprise, I received a call from the Bank of Boston and was told I could come down, present my badge and they would give me my card. I later tried the card and it still worked with the same PID. I again called DCU and explained what happened. At this time I found that my account balance showed an amount as being debited on this date. I was told it would take a couple weeks to straighten out. It has been a month and I am yet to have my balance corrected to reflect this non-transaction, and to top it off I received a new card yesterday. Time to call/visit DCU again. - Jim

I remember a couple of years ago, the Bank of Boston machines seemed to be 'eating' DCU cards. I lost mine, about a week before Christmas, no less. I called and was told by B of B taht, "Oh yes, we know about this problem. Certain of our machines are keeping every fifth DCU card" Needless to say, noone was informed. I guess B of B didn't want to miss out on too many $.50 fees. Denny |
