60.0. "Lost check due to wrong badge #" by 24730::MARK (Mark Gillis, 273-3516, VRO3-3/B6) Tue Oct 13 1987 17:38
I deposited a check for $302.00 from John Hancock in my checking account
last year and waited 3 months for the check to clear. I would balance
my check book each month and it would never be recorded on my statement.
I called the DCU and they told me they had no record of it so I had to
go back to John Hancock, tell them the check was lost and get it re-issued.
However, John Hancock told me the check had been deposited at the DCU and they
had the canceled check to prove it!
They sent me a copy of the check and I studied it carefully. Lo and behold,
I had signed it and written in the correct account, but, I had transposed
two digits on my badge number by accident. Thus DCU had deposited the check
in someone else's account!
Anyway, I got the money transferred to my account and the story has a happy
ending.
Moral of the story: Always balance your checkbook.
Another Moral: Be verrrrry careful writing your badge number on the back of the
check.

60.1 | Do you look at your deposit receipts? | REGENT::EPSTEIN | Bruce Epstein | Mon Oct 19 1987 18:43 | 4 |
| A similar thing happened to me - I deposited a DCU check into my
account; the amount was credited to the account that the check was
drwan from! I spotted it immediately when I looked at the deposit
slip (DON'T JUST THROW IT AWAY!) and it was corrected within minutes.
