| {plain-old-fellow-noter-hat-on}
In reading the issues in this note and others regarding the easy-touch
system (plus my first hand experiences), I would suggest that the
addition of an audio menu to the easy-touch system would be most
helpful.
Today I find I must be fully prepared, with the instruction sheet, my
transaction notes and the account name(s) and password(s) in hand
before I start. I use a paper system.
This system consists of writing down a complete list of all transaction
numbers and amounts in the exact order I will use them. This saves
connect time on toll calls and entry errors on my part.

I now have a copy of the instructions, so I decided to give it
a try. I had no luck. I will explain what I did and maybe someone
can help me.
1) I called the telephone number (3-9943)
2) entered my badge number
3) entered security code
4) entered transaction code
5) when asked account type, I entered "5#" for checking
was "told" "invalid transaction, please enter account type"
tried "1#" for savings--enter savings number
I entered the only number I can find on statement other than
my badge number and was told "invalid".
I then tried my badge number and that was invalid.
I gave up then
My question is where do I find these numbers???

Let me add a vote against "talking menus" unless they can be defeated
completely (maybe by "typeahead" or some other means).
I like Easytouch precisely because I find it easy enough to remember
the codes for my common transactions and you can "typeahead" a small
amount at the prompts to really slide through the transactions.

| Come on, folks ! It's a simple engineering issue to provide the
ability to get on-line help in Easy-Touch without slowing down
those callers that already know what to press.
I just had the exact same problem. I called Easy-Touch and didn't
know what to "press". I needed on-line help.
Sure, if I had paper instructions I could do it, but on-line help
is so important. For further evidence just look at previous replies
to this note.
For precedents, look at Digital compute systems. Even though we
provide paper documentation, we always provide extensive on-line
help.
Please improve Easy-Touch to provide on-line help if requested.
Thanks.

I called EasyTouch last week, the phone rang, EasyTouch answer it and

up before YOU hang up.

It would be difficult to do serious damage to someone in
this case (if you had been so inclined, and I'm NOT suggesting
that you were) since all you can do is find out balances and
move money around or send it to the owner. The damage possible
is that of fouling up a transaction like taking all the money
out of the checking account after the owner had just sent in his
mortgage payment. Sure, the owner still has their money, but
they also may have a bounced check.

| re:.11 re:.10
No, you can't even move money around from account to account,
because after a transfer amount is entered, Easytouch asks for
your security code. Unless you know the s.c., the money doesn't
get moved.
I haven't tried a withdrawal using Easytouch, but I'd be willing
to bet that you need the security code for that as well.
The only thing .10 could do would be to get balances, and without
knowing the account number, what good would that do him?

It sounds 'Yuke' and disgusting.
Sound like he's still in the bed when you call.
I like the old female sound better.

He may not sound great (I personally don't have a problem with it)
but he does have a couple of advantages over the previous system.
Most importantly, the ability to "key ahead" with the new system
significantly reduces the time to complete a transation. For example,
to inquire on my balance I can type badge number, security number,
"1#","1#", and "5#" as soon as the "robot" says "Welcome". All
the other voice prompts are skipped and I'm given my checking balance.
I was never able to do this with the old system.
Additionally, it seems to promote a "use what you sell" attitude.
A salesperson could showcase the DECtalk application as implemented
by our own credit union while trying to win some banking business,
or any other application where DECtalk is appropriate.

At the Baybanks XPRESS24 machines, they have an option called "custom
cash", which you can set via a menu item, that allows you to specify the
amount of cash that you want to withdraw any time that you select the
"custom cash" item from the withdraw menu.
Perhaps they should put a selection on the DCU ATMs that will allow you to
select a voice that you want to hear?? (After all, DECtalk is
programmable, right? ;^])

I got confused between Easytouch and ATMs, probably because of previous
conversations about talking ATMs in this conference.
That still doesn't mean that there couldn't be an option to have the user
select a voice that he or she wanted to hear, instead of the "default"
voice. As I recall, DECtalk is programmable to synthesize a large number
of voices. Just make more of them available. (8-})

After getting into EASYTOUCH, use 3# (Loan Payment). It will ask
you from which account you wish to transfer money, use 1# (Savings).
It will then ask which loan account you wish to make the payment
on. I choose 1# which is the CRT loan. I assume that number is
the same for everybody. It then asks for the amount. This is entered
as a string of digits, e.g. 4500 --> means $45.00. It then repeats
the accounts and the amount and asks you to enter your security code
to confirm and its done.
As far as going in reverse, that is transfering money from your
CRT loan to savings, I don't know how to do it. Does anyone else
know if this can be done?

Be careful, not all loan numbers are the same... (you may have stated
this in your note - I could've missed it...anyway)
You have loan 2 as VISA. For me loan 2 is my car, loan 3 is VISA.
(Maybe because I got them in that order?)
I also had savings 12 - which was an escrow account some time ago...
Refer to your local monthly statement(s) for your
appropriate numbers...

| Around noon time today I called EasyTouch via DTN 223-9943. The
machine answered, but never said anything. I dialed the # button
to see if I could get a response. To my surprise I found myself
at the "Please enter transaction code" question. I proceeded to get my
account balances and found that they were all wrong.
Then, I realized that this was probably someone else's account!
How was the system supposed to know what my account number was when
I never even keyed it in? I have a RSVP account, but this account
didn't have one, so that was my proof.
I typed the *# to the machine to have it hang-up and telephoned the
main office immediately to let them know what happened. They acted
less-than surprized, but they did say they would report it to the
management. They also mentioned that this had happened before.
I would advise anyone who uses the easytouch system to always use the
*# *before* hanging up. Just imagine what could happen if you didn't!

Note 185.0 Strange Dialect for Easy-Touch? 1 reply
GIAMEM::MUMFORD "Mistakes made while u wait!" 24 lines 11-JUL-1989 14:15
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I seem to recall seeing this topic addressed some time ago, but I
can't seem to find it in the directory, or via keyword.
I have called the Customer Service group to express my displeasure
at the irritating electronic voice that has been chosen for Easy-Touch.
Moreover, as a hearing impaired person, I have a GREAT difficulty
understanding the obscure dialect they have chosen! I understand
that those with "normal" hearing are not real pleased, either!
I was told several months ago by a customer service representative
( I can't remember the name, it was not Mary Madden) that the
irritating voice was the result of implementing DECtalk, that they
had received other complaints, and they were working the problem with
DEC. I note that the obscure dialect still remains in place today!
I know the problem is not DECtalk, which can be confirmed by placing
a call to Investor Services, which also uses DECtalk, and listening
to the pleasant, understandable voice that responds. Why can't
DCU seem to get the problem rectified?
Is anyone else bothered by this unintelligible gobbledegook?
Dick.

Just a little something I thought some of you might like.
o Extract the attached into a file call DCU.HLP
o At the DCL prompt ($) type the following
$ LIBRARY/CREATE/HELP directory_location:DCU directory_location:DCU
where directory_spec will be where DCU.HLP resides
o Define a symbol for DCU such as the following. You may want to add
this line to your LOGIN.COM.
$ DCU == "HELP/LIBRARY=directory_location:DCU DCU"
Now what you have is a VMS help file with DCU information in it. I
would suggest keeping the DCU.HLP file so that you can update it as
needed. Each time you update the DCU.HLP file you must execute the
LIBRARY/CREATE command again.
This works quite well for myself and it doesn't drag along like some of
the DCL files. Everyone will have to customize it for their own
accounts.
