| Are you talking about the voice that answers "Easy Touch"?
That IS DECtalk.

49.2 | can not be dectalk! | WORDS::BADGER | Happy Trails | Tue Sep 22 1987 23:34 | 9 |
| The one that tells me my balances, and does xfers. THAT CAN'T BE
DECTALK! I've heard DECTALK before. Unless its a poorly programed
implmentation of it. naaah, the more I think of it, it can't be
DECTALK.
Is there someone who knows?

| I believe that the current system is a tape loop system - they're
pretty common, as I understand it.
DECtalk would be nice, but I doubt it's just a matter of plugging it
in! I'd be willing to bet that DCU has more pressing hardware/software
concerns than this.

49.4 | I was probably wrong | EXIT26::STRATTON | The four basic dessert groups | Wed Sep 23 1987 16:47 | 12 |
| Well, I'll back down (at least a little).
I called someone at their main office. The person I talked
to wasn't sure if it was DECtalk or not. He said that
it uses an 11/03 with RX01 (or RX02) drives - would that
run a "tape loop system" that Brian mentioned in .3?
This person said that the DCU did get a DECtalk unit several
months ago (and he unpacked it and repacked it for re-shipment
himself), but it went to "a DCU programmer", and he doesn't
know what (if anything) will happen to it.

49.5 | How about their operator | 34860::MANGU | | Thu Sep 24 1987 18:48 | 9 |
|
What about the infinite or semi- loop with the operator?
I've called several times with the recording for faster dialing.
When I dail the number for the service, I get the operator who forwards
me somewhere and I'm back to the recording again. Then back to the
operator and maybe to someone who can help.
Are they really that busy? Or is it a bug?

| The existing system is definitely not DECtalk; it is the recorded voice of a
person who makes drum or bubble memory voice-response systems for a living.
One drum can serve multiple phone lines and is more cost-effective than
DECtalk for a system with fixed responses. DECtalk units are expensive and
can handle only one phone line at a time.
