See note 43. This is a symptom of the same problem. Deliberate
inflexibility.
I would like to state here that (as I have pointed out elsewhere)
most compalints that get posted here fall on deaf ears.
However, as was pointed out in 43.0, that note will be sent
to a SOMEBODY. It is through that note that you have a chance
to be heard.
Speak up when it counts!
Joe Oppelt
BTW, doesn't it seem that from among the participants in this
conference we could design a system that runs circles around
the current one?

New entries in this conference are sent to the chairman of the DCU
board of directors daily at 1:00 AM by batch process.
See note 2.21 for September's status details.

| Since the DCU chairman is getting our comments, is it possible to
have responses or actions to those items posted as well?
eg 2.21 that they are considering bringing in a programer (which
is very encouraging), etc.

46.4 | Don't they already have programmers? | 24699::FULTZ | ED FULTZ | Wed Sep 16 1987 15:28 | 12 |
| It is both encouraging and disturbing to hear DCU indicate that
they are bringing in a programmer. With the credit union at the
size it is, I would have thought that they would have had their
own programming group already in place.
Also, just bringing in a programmer will not solve any problems
if he is not directed to make required or appropriate
corrections/changes. In that situation, the existing management,
which presumably directed the original programmers to write the
"system" the way it currently is, would simply keep it the same
(or heaven forbid - make it worse).

46.5 | More Importantly, There Is Response To Our Issues! | SWATT::LEEBER | 1SPCS Hits Pay-dirt! Film at eleven | Wed Sep 16 1987 17:02 | 27 |
| RE: .4
Well Ed, it is certainly possible to look at things this way. I,
however, called them. I placed my version of what I heard in 2.21 for
everyone to see.
One point you have noted is that the programmer can only do what he or
she is told to do (what is specified). However, what I take as good
news, is that issues and suggestions made here and to the DCU via
non-computer channels would be part of what this person would do.
I didn't get (but, I did not ask for) any guarantees that this is what
would be done. I did conclude my conversations with the impression that
the DCU is listening and will do something (positive assumed) about the
issues raised here.
I for one believe that the DCU clearly has received customer inputs.
The "proof of the pudding" will come is 'n' months (weeks {:^)>?) to
come when we experience the results of the programmers work.

BTW, someone (in note 47 maybe?) said that we noters could spec. out a
better DCU system. Any brave soul want to start a new note topic on
"Feature Specification For DCU Software System" ? Maybe we could help
DCU management by providing a feature list based spec. to start them of
with?

I don't belive that DCU has its own programming staff. I think they
bought the system from another company.

46.7 | My experience with DCU's software | RSTS32::HERBERT | | Fri Sep 18 1987 12:56 | 10 |
| I know that back when DCU was using their 2 RSTS systems, they were
sharing their software with the Litton Credit Union. Their software
came from some external company which was writing it for both credit
unions.
For what its worth, back then all of their software was written
in Pascal, but wasn't believed to be easily ported to VAX PASCAL.
I don't know if it was re-written when they moved to VMS...

| At one time they were going to ay fr the development of a system
on the VAX and i think that was done or at least they bought a
program form someone as they are now using VAXes. They Are/were
an OEM and were going to sell VAXes with the CU Program aded as
a product. Would be intersting to find out what ever happened
to that one.
