45.0. "ATM - NETWORK CHANGES ??" by 26744::MACMILLAN () Thu Sep 10 1987 11:14

    I hear that MONEC network was bought out by a local bank. Is this
    true and if so will the DCU get another network so that it's members
    can get money at ATM's other that the bank that supposedly bought
    it?

                Received in your latest statement was a notice that you
        would be getting a new card this month and that around the end
        of the month, DCU would be with the Cirrus Network instead of
        the one it is with now.

ATM NETWORK SWITCH: Effective November 1st, DCU will be switching from the
PLUS to the CIRRUS network. The MONEC system is being dissolved by Bank of
Boston. Additional available networks are: POCKETBANK, CASH, AMERICAN EXPRESS,

45.4Rendered my card useless!COMET::LAFORESTFri Nov 20 1987 15:4311
       The change has meant that instead of being able to use the card
    almost everywhere, those of us that live west of the Mississippi
    can now use it almost nowhere. However I suppose that every time
    I need some cash in a hurry I can always hop a jet to Boston to
    get it.

       Why doesn't the board of directors think of members that do not
    live in New England? They have rendered the card nearly useless
    to a lot of members.

    When you are the center of the universe you DON'T have to consider
    a few small groups light years away. You know outa sight outa mind.
    This is the impression conveyed to me.

45.6so what?WINERY::THOMASThe Code WarriorSat Nov 21 1987 01:483
    Sigh, Colorado isn't the only place west of the Missisipi. Here
    in Califorina, the switch has helped, not hurt. And we don't even
    have a DCU branch in this state!
45.7CIRRUS vs PLUS29805::KINDELBill Kindel @ LTN2Tue Nov 24 1987 14:2017
    This argument is going nowhere. Sure, it would be nice if the DCU
    card had access to both the CIRRUS and PLUS networks, but that's
    *not* an option at this point.

    What the Colorado Springs crowd doesn't know is that PLUS isn't an
    option anymore, either. MONEC, the New England PLUS interface, has
    gone out of business. With the bulk of DCU membership in "Greater
    Maynard", all the old PLUS cards have become even less usable in
    Massachusetts than the CIRRUS cards are in Colorado.

    As a result, DCU has only three choices.
    1.	Issue cards which are *only* good in DCU ATMs.
    2.	Affiliate *only* with a regional system, such as TX in Massachusetts.
    	I don't think it's possible to affiliate with a remote regional system.
    3.	Affiliate with the surviving national system, CIRRUS.

    Which one would you choose?

    I moved my ATM business to a local CU that offers useful services
    it more than meets my needs.

    ATM NETWORK SWITCH: DCU recently changed its major national ATM network
    from the PLUS system to CIRRUS. DCU made this decision based on
    increasing the total number of terminals available to the membership.
    Unfortunately, PLUS and CIRRUS are "mutually exclusive" companies.
    Essentially forcing DCU to leave PLUS in order to join CIRRUS. We
    were able to retain most of our regional network affiliations, and
    more are joining monthly.

    Currently, CIRRUS, EXCHANGE, CASH, TX, AMERICAN EXPRESS, MASTERTELLER
    and POCKETBANK terminals are available to Easy Cash24 cardholders.
    There are other local networks as well, Locations are available
    by calling the Customer Service Center at DTN/223-8444 or 617/493-8444.
