| The last time I brought in coins (all rolled - about 2 rolls
each of quarters and dimes) the teller told me "we don't usually
handle coins but I need some change so I'll take it."
Last time I looked it was all spendable....

If they've got 'em, they should give 'em to you if all you're going
to do is turn around and give 'em back. Make sense? Maybe that's the
problem... <sigh>

(btw, I've gone to the bank and asked for coin wrappers before and they
didn't ask if I had an account there - though I was there for another
reason...)

| Where does one cash in 174 pounds of pennies?
I worked at a newspaper one time and they had a machine that counted
and rolled change the paper boys/girls on collection day but try
and get a bank to do this.
I figure by the time I count, and roll then write name address and
phone number on every roll, and hire a U-HAUL I'll be retired 30
years from now.
Or maybe by then they will be worth more melted down...

| In addition to my DCU account, I have a NOW account at Numerica in
Manchester, NH. I recently took a large bag of loose coins,
mostly pennies but also nickels, dimes, and quarters, to their
branch in Pennichuck Square on Route 101A (I believe this is in
Merrimack, but I could be mistaken). They counted them while I
waited, and deposited the proceeds into my account.
Many savings banks, and almost any full-service bank, can handle
loose change. Most will want you to have an account with them,
but you could always open an account and ask them to deposit the
coins into it.
I suspect the DCU has such equipment, but probably only at the
main branch at Parker Street in Maynard. You could ask whether
they can take the coins at Parker Street, if your branch won't
take them.

| And I deposited several pounds of small change in my account at
Souhegan National Bank in Milford. Last I heard pennies were in
short supply. Have you thought of seeing if the Boston Federal
Reserve Bank wants them? I think they are in charge of keeping
banks in the region supplied with currency.

| Today I received a telephone call from the DCU main office. The
individual I spoke with said that a DCU director saw this
note and informed him of my penny wrapper problem. He said he'd
mail me a sufficient supply for my needs immediately and see to it
that the ZK branch would be supplied with wrappers from now on.
Thank you DCU. Your addressing of this problem is MUCH appreciated!

Did the person you spoke with say that the note information came
from Mark Steinkrauss or did some other DEC employee pass it to
them?

| BTW, the main branch of Indian Head bank in downtown Nashua (the
one on Main street, not the salmon-colored one behind it) has a
coin counting machine. They accept large quantities of coins on
one particular day of the week (don't remember which). I suppose
they probably want you to have an account, but don't know for sure.
(I've not done it...just seen the sign when I was in for another
purpose.)
