included in CDE.next ?

647.2 | CDE_Next not in Steel | UNXA::PARLOCK | | Wed May 14 1997 15:45 | 7 |

For resource and other reasons, CDE_Next was dropped from the
Steel release deliverables. Steel will ship with the CDE 1.0
code base (same as in 4.x) with some minor enhancements such as
a new CDE setup utility and a workspace manager.

| No CDE.next .. Bummer!
I was really looking forward to trying out DtSearch too.
The new workspace manager sounds good though. Is this a virtual
desktop ala fvwm? What about an MB2 windows list?

Yes, very similar. We've implemented the windows list feature but
decided to not do what fvwm calls the "pager" graphical view of all
your workspaces. Why? The usual time and resource issues. Perhaps
in a future release. You access the functional spec at
http://www.unx.dec.com/cde/docs/gwm_fs.html if you want more detail.

Access this version of the func spec if you wish to see
a screen capture of the workspace manager
