Is this a VMS or UNIX CDE problem report?

PRODUCT: DECwindows Motif for OpenVMS Alpha, CDE Desktop Version 1.2-4

OP/SYS: OpenVMS Alpha Version 6.2

SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation

SYMPTOM:

Users are unable to "Save" a file from the Text Editor, DTpad, when
it's invoked from the File Manager, DTfile.

For example, invoke DTfile from the CDE Front Panel. After selecting
a file from the File Manager and clicking on MB3, a menu is displayed.
One of the menu items is "Open". When this is selected, the file is
opened in the DTpad Text Editor. If, after editing the file, "Save"
is selected from the editor's "File" menu to save the file, an error
is returned stating:

 Unable to save device:[directory]file.name
File does not allow writing by anyone

DIGITAL RESPONSE:

This problem has been reported to Engineering.

WORKAROUND:

Execute the DTpad application elsewhere, such as from the Front Panel
or from a DECterm using "$ MCR CDE$PATH:DTPAD". Alternatively, and
regardless of how DTpad is invoked, the "Save As" option could be used
to save the file to a higher version number or a different file name.

ANALYSIS:

It appears that DTpad is attempting to write the new file to the same
version number as the original file.
