618.0. "Help Viewer dies on Unix 3.2G" by WRKSYS::SNEHRA () Thu Mar 13 1997 17:14

Hi,

I have a customer (GE Nuclear) who is having trouble with the
Help Viewer under CDE on his AS500/333 system.

His current config is:

AS 500/333 W/ ZLXp-L2
256MB memory
~800MB Swap
Unix 3.2G
Open 3D ver 3.4

On an regular basis the Help Viewer dies when a selection
is made within the window.

The following error appears in the users .dt errorlog file:

Thu Mar 13 14:54:00 1997
dtsession: Screen lock when the screen saver is turned on is not available on th
is server. Your screen will not be locked when the screen saver is turned on.
/bin/sh: 1768 Memory fault - core dumped
/bin/sh: 1800 Memory fault - core dumped
/bin/sh: 1816 Memory fault - core dumped

Is there a solution to this problem ?

I am able to dup this problem on one of my lab systems running 3.2G.

BTW, is there any user doc available for CDE on 3.2G ?
Is it on the Unix 3.2 cdrom doc set ?

Thanks

Yep. Have the customer upgrade to a supported version, either
V4.0, V4.0A, or V4.0B. The V3.2x CDE version is an unsupported
	Advanced Developers Kit.

618.2Apps are not ready for UNIX 4.0WRKSYS::SNEHRAFri Mar 14 1997 09:5919
Chris,

Unfortunately the main apps that the customer
runs are not certified for UNIX 4.0.
I was hoping that there was a simpler
solution to the problem.

The main reason the customer is using the
Help Viewer is to get familiar with the
CDE environment.
Thus if there are user docs available
thru other means, he'd gladly use them.
Is there a CDE doc set for UNIX 3.2 ?

Thanks

Sandeep

Sandeep,

With 3.2, we shipped man pages and postscript copies of the doc set, albeit
early versions. These were packaged into the following subsets:

CDEDOC350 CDE PostScript Documents (Common Desktop Environment)
CDEMANOP350 Ref Pages: CDE Development (Common Desktop Environment)
CDEMANOS350 Ref Pages: CDE User (Common Desktop Environment)

Chris,

Thanks for the pointer - I'll have the
customer install these subsets.
