612.0. "Xserver default value for BlackPixel and WhitePixel" by ALFAXP::RETTERER () Mon Mar 03 1997 14:06

Hi there.

One of my customers is inquiring about the BlackPixel and WhitePixel
color index in the Xserver.

He is running a 3rd party product that displays properly on a NCD Xterminal
that has the default BlackPixel value set to 1 and the WhitePixel set to 0.

Dunix v4.0b - CDE

On his Alphastation 255, the BlackPixel value is 0 and the WhitePixel value is
1.

He wants to change this on the Alphastation so that BlackPixel is 1 and
WhitePixel is 0.

I had him create the file /etc/dt/config/Xservers, and specify the following:

 :0 Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0 -bp white -wp black

But after restarting CDE it did not honor the change.

I also tried:

 :0 Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0 -bp 1 -wp 0

This did not work either.

Is there anyway possible for him to change this? I advised him that
his 3rd party application probably is in error for keying on these values
but it is falling to deaf ears it seems.

Thanks,

Rick Retterer

Did you also have the customer create /etc/dt/config/Xconfig, and
edit it to point to the new Xservers file? If not, then the
change was never really tried. You must edit and change both
	files...

612.2/usr/bin/X11/X :0 -vclass0 PseudoColor -bp white -wp blackALFAXP::RETTERERTue Mar 04 1997 13:3924
No. I did not change the Xconfig file. I didn't think that
this was needed. I did verify however, that the Xserver
is getting the -bp and -wp parameters passed to it.

ps aux | grep -i /X

root 5786 0.0 2.8 11.3M 3.5M ?? 13:25:25 0:03.69 /usr/bin/X11/X :0
-vclass0 PseudoColor -bp white -wp black ...

The Xserver appears not to be honoring the -bp and -wp parameters.

I can change the BlackPixel to 0 by changing -vclass0 to TrueColor but the
WhitePixel value is 65534.

Just for grins I tried this on a old ultrix system I have at my disposal
and the switches work just the way you would expect it to.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick Retterer

The Xserver folks rarely monitor this conference, try posting over
