590.0. "Display security : How to enter Decnet nodenames?" by IAMOSI::LEUNG (Appearance....Deception) Mon Jan 27 1997 22:33

Digital UNIX V4.0A  (Rev. 464)

I need to enable some other Decnet nodes to display back to my workstation.

Tried with both xhost and dxhosts but both refuses to accept the Decnet nodename.

For example :

$ xhost iamosi::
xhost: unknown address family "iamosi"
xhost:  bad hostname "iamosi::"

man page for xhost mentions the following :

  Hostnames that are followed by two colons (::) are used in checking DECnet
  connections; all other hostnames are used for TCP/IP connections.

Thanks
Dennis

Try "dnet:iamosi" instead of "iamosi::".

Dennis,

iamosi:: is supposed to work (it used to work for me). Are you
sure DECnet is installed and up and running on the machine?
