2234.0. "PowerBraille and 'non-editable cursors'" by GIDDAY::BACOT () Thu Jun 05 1997 02:50

    Hi,

We have a customer that is using a PowerBraille display.
When reading TeamLinks mail it doesn't display the message.
Apparently this is because of the cursor in the read message window
    being 'non-editable'.

They can create and send messages but not read incoming mail.
You are able to display help files as well. Apparently the problem
is with these 'non-editable cursor' windows.

An obvious work around would be to do a reply with text but we were
wondering if this would be feasible to make the necessary modifications
to TeamLinks to allow this type of display to work? Then again,
perhaps the folks that design the braille display could make it work
    in these types of windows...

    What do you think?

Angela,

Hong Le was here in ZKO2 last week on his way to some Office Server
training in REO. We had never met him before so it was good that
he came.

While he was here he mentioned this problem. At the time he didn't
know if it affected the Create Message window but, according to
your base topic, it must be working ok there. So it's just in the
viewer part of the Read Message window.

Is this TeamLinks 2.7 they are testing this with?

Does this problem happen with TEXT attachments and other attachments
like RTF and Word? In that version of TL TEXT is displayed by a
Digital produced TEXT viewer. The other file types are displayed
in the Mastersoft viewer.

Perhaps we can get right people together from the PowerBraille vendor,
Inso/Mastersoft and DEC to figure out how to make it work. If it
involves "non-editable cursor" windows like you said, and if this
is a common characteristic of certain viewers, then maybe PowerBraille
needs some information on how to support them. Inso might know
how to accomplish this with their viewer.

    Hi Bob,

Here is some information we gathered while testing.
Glenn Casey from the Pathworks group is involved in this as well.
It may be easier if we can get you a copy of the software we are
testing with which is the visual display of what appears on the braille
    display.

>> So it's just in the viewer part of the Read Message window.

We have no trouble "seeing" the data (on the simulated braille display)
    in the create message window.

> Is this TeamLinks 2.7 they are testing this with?

We are using the 2.7 internal use only version with Windows 3.1
and PATHWORKS V6.0 using DECnet as the network transport.

A WPSPlus attachment can be seen in the braille display although we have
to minimize the Read Message window and then maximize it which was a
little strange. RTF documents that I mail to myself are not viewable
in the braille display nor are text.
We noticed that the cursor in a text document is an insertion bar and on
the RTF it is an arrow. Do you know why these are different?

If I go to the Local Demonstration drawer and sample applications then
double click on the WPS+ document it reads the message fine.

If I forward any of these messages to me they are unreadable.
When you read a message there is a From field which is identified as
"Edit Box 1" and is readable by PowerBraille,
the subject field is "Edit Box 2" and is readable,
the message field is "Edit Box 3" and doesn't display.
All fields are uneditable and the cursor changes to an insertion
bar for each field. What is the difference beteen these fields?

    Regards,
