Hi, I have a customer using Teamlinkis 2.7 and he is complaining that he is not able to decode some mime attachments from teamlinks. The same mesage if sent to Eudora , can be decoded correctly. When he receives messages with mime attachments that can'te be decoded in teamlinik, he exports the attachment to DOS and uses a program called wincode. Anu ideas .. of what can be happening ? Thks..Marcia

Hi Marcia, let them check the mime-type definitions for the formats they use. At my customer, the CoV, we were using Eudora in the past and had a lot of problems, that they use different mime-types. It's very important to have common types, even in MS world, too. Cheers Charly

Marcia, We'll need the exact scenario (for both the sender and receiver) in order to figure this out. How are the messages being sent to TeamLinks - what product is being used to send them? If sent using TeamLinks, what is the primary file cabinet type (Internet Mail, MailWorks/VMS, MailWorks/Unix, or ALL-IN-1) of the sender? What is the exact mail address typed into the To: field? If the sender is using ALL-IN-1 or MailWorks, are they MIME encoding the message on send (using the Send Options dialog)? This should *not* be done if they have PMDF on the server, since this handles MIME encoding and decoding (when configured properly). If PMDF is being used, then there may be some configuration problems with it which could cause decoding problems. What is the primary file cabinet type of the receiver? Is the message being sent to the TeamLinks user's Internet Mail address? If so, then is it being downloaded using the TeamLinks POP3 Mail Retriever? If the message is being sent using (or received into) MailWorks or ALL-IN-1 It would be helpful if you could post the exact contents of message as it appears in the TeamLinks Read message window - select and copy the entire contents, then paste it into a reply here. Thanks, John

2220.5 | Please enter a bug report | bachlr.zko.dec.com::manana::hovey | Wed May 28 1997 15:03 | 10
Please send me the file and or submit a bug report. MIME decode in general has had very very few bug reports. Usually the problem is whatever gateway the message went through (i.e. the To: and From: headers get stripped off); but in this case that's not the issue since "wincode" will process it after you export the message to DOS. |
