| V3 (currently in field test) uses LDAP when TeamLinks
is used as an Internet mail client. ALL-IN-1, MailWorks,
and Exchange support use the directory services associated
with their type of server.

2145.2 | What about LDAP in Office Server? | TEAMLK::alfras1_port27.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximous | | Tue Apr 22 1997 16:54 | 6 |
| Office Server has LDAP support. If TeamLinks is connecting to
Office Server, does this mean it would be using LDAP with Office Server?
I'm confused.

| Signe,
I believe, but don't have a quick way to confirm, that DIGITAL
Office Server will be supporting the ALL-IN-1 interface to its
directory as well as LDAP. I believe they have a requirement to
work with shipping versions of TeamLinks, so I cannot imagine
that LDAP is the only interface to their directory.
Or did I misunderstand?

| To confirm the Office Server position:
Office Server supports both X.500 DAP directories (e.g. Digital X.500)
and LDAP directories (e.g. PMDF-X500). This is for VT access and Data
Server (aka AIDA) access for TeamLinks, MAPI driver etc.
Currently ALL-IN-1 V3.2 supports X.500 DAP directories only.
If you are using Digital MAILbus 400 then you would probably be using
Digital X.500. If not then you can choose which directory flavour you
want.
Dick
As an aside, the terminology here tends to get a bit non-rigorous. The
following definitions might help:
X.500 DAP directory - One that supports the DAP protocol and the
associated XDS API as a means of communicating
with it.
LDAP directory - One that supports the LDAP protocol and its
associated (but unnamed) API. Typically this
means that a "front end" supporting the LDAP
protocol and API has been tacked on to an X.500
DAP directory (as in the case of PMDF-X500) but
it can mean a NON-X.500 directory, supporting
LDAP only (e.g. University of Michigan SLAPD).

2145.5 | Multiple protocols supported | TEAMLK::alfras1_port34.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximous | | Wed Apr 23 1997 09:22 | 4 |
| Office Server supports multiple directory interfaces, with LDAP being
one of them (I think). I'm quite unclear on this though.
