2144.0. "Text mail message makes system crash" by WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeya (Who am I now ?) Tue Apr 22 1997 14:13

I have a text mail message that manages to crash not only TeamLinks but
Windows 95. Does anyone want to try and sort this one out ?

It has done it twice to me and no other ones caused any problems.

2144.1its not the messageWOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeyaWho am I now ?Tue Apr 22 1997 14:506
It happeneed with another message so I think its the system thats falling
over somewhere.

I'll see if a re-install fixes it

2144.2How bad a hang is it? ;^)XANADU::CUMMINGSJerry Cummings, TeamLinksTue Apr 22 1997 14:5415
What action on this message causes a crash/hang? I'll guess reading it?

Can you expand it (Ctrl-E) within Infoman?
Can you do a Show Full Header?
Can you do a File Attributes on it?

I'm wondering if it's an attribute of the message that causes the
problem, something in the content, or something else.

Is it something you could forward to me? If so, send it to me
at [email protected] and I'll sic the nightly build on
it.

Thanks,
Jerry
2144.3It may be video issuesWOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeyaWho am I now ?Tue Apr 22 1997 20:148
I think it is a consequence of my installing new video drivers and setting
them to 32 bit mode. I have since gone back to 24 bit (same new drivers)
and it has not happened since.

Does this help ?

Yep - just read the failing message OK.

What's 32-bit mode? 24-bit is TrueColor...

What version of TeamLinks?
What format is the cover memo?

Oops sorry. Yes 24 bit makes it crash. 16 bit is better. I have still had
one problem with the system since then so I'm going to go back to the old
drivers soon.

Version is the 2.7

Whats a cover memo ?

By "cover memo", I mean the first thing/attachment viewed
in the Read Message window when it is open. Depending upon
both the version of TeamLinks and the format of that first
item, different things happen.

If you expand the message within Infoman and do a File
Attributes on the item after the one with envelope bitmap,
you'd be able to tell what the format is.

We've run TeamLinks with TrueColor drivers before though.
Maybe these drivers have a problem?

Thanks,
Jerry
2144.8I don't think its a TL problem as suchWOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeyaWho am I now ?Wed Apr 23 1997 18:455
Yes, I think they do. I think TL makes the problem happen sooner but let me
sort out the drivers first and then retest.
