2119.0. "TL V3, MAPI and Outlook?" by GIDDAY::JOYCE (Andy Joyce - Digital CSC Sydney) Thu Apr 10 1997 03:16

    Folks,

Can someone clear up a bit of confusion...?

A customer has stumbled across the problem of trying to
run TeamLinks+Simple MAPI, Office 97 and Outlook on the same
PC. The following extract from Bob's FAQ explains the problem...

Simple MAPI problems in MS Office 97
    ------------------------------------
The TeamLinks Simple MAPI DLLs, when installed, overwrite the standard
MAPI.DLL and MAPI32.DLL files provided by Microsoft. This is not an
issue if you don't use MS Exchange Client and you work with MS Office
    95. The Simple MAPI integration with Office 95 applications works properly.
However, this practice of replacing MAPI DLLs can introduce a problem
in Windows 95 if User Level Access Control is used.

There are some additional problems when MS Office 97 is used. Office 97
appears to be using Extended MAPI functions and expecting the standard
MAPI32.DLL from Microsoft to be on the system. The new Outlook 97 Mail
client, which replaces MS Exchange, does not work at all if TeamLinks'
    Simple MAPI support is installed.

What I'm not clear on if whether TeamLinks V3.0 will fix this
problem? If it has full MAPI support then will it use the
Microsoft MAPI DLLs or will it still have to replace them?
If it replaces them then will the replacement DLLs work with
    	both TeamLInks and Office 97/Outlook?

    Thanks,
    Andy

The conflict will still be there in V3.0 if you want to use TeamLinks
Simple MAPI. The Exchange support in V3 uses the Microsoft MAPI dlls.
So, the conflict will only happen if you want to use TeamLinks Simple
MAPI. If you just want the Exchange support, then there won't be
any problem. The V3.0 the installation will warn the user of the conflict.

2119.2So can we use full MAPI to integrate Office 97?GIDDAY::JOYCEAndy Joyce - Digital CSC SydneyThu Apr 10 1997 21:0119

But I guess what I'm asking is will V3.0 still require us to
use Simple MAPI (and ODMA) to integrate with Office 97 apps
(Word, Excel etc.) or will we be able to use the Microsoft MAPI dlls
    instead?

In short, will we be able to run Outlook and TeamLinks V3.0
(integrated with Office 97 apps) on the same PC at the same time?

    Thanks,
    Andy

You can run them at the same time but only if you do not install
TeamLinks Simple MAPI. And in that case when you do a Send from
Word it will use the Exchange UI, not the TeamLinks UI.
