2117.1 | TL Setup should help you | A1WS2::MANANA::Palmer | Thu Apr 10 1997 10:33 | 7
Jan I think if they customer goes to TL Setup File Formats they can add the new format. They can also use TL Setup Associations to associate the file tag with a Viewer. Rick
2117.2 | Which viewer?... | VMSNET::J_COLBURN | Thu Apr 10 1997 12:08 | 10
Rick, There doesn't seem to be a viewer for these file types. I think what he is looking for is the ability to click on the attachment and have it launch the application automatically without having to select the association each time. Debbie G. says she doesn't know that he's going to be able to do this without someone doing some customizations but she says to run it by you. Thanks. Jan

Jan When I said viewer I meant an application that will read the files. You mentioned they are asked to associate every time a file is read. What is the file type assigned to the attachment when it is received. You can find this from the INFOMAN File-->Attributes. If there is a valid file type they can associate it with the application and no more requests to associate. Rick

If you simply define the format tags in TLSETUP then that might be all you have to do. Use the file extension as the tag. TL 2.7, and TL 3.0 for that matter, cannot auto-detect these file types. But these extensions look pretty unique, so it will be able to revert to file extension mapping. The user will be confirmed during attach and import operations. If these applications have made the proper entries in the Windows Registry (Reg.dat), then you do not need any TL File Associations to get a simple launch. Depending on the server you use, you might have to also define these formats there as well. ALL-IN-1 and the 2 MailWorks servers are all different. If you want TL to come preconfigured with these format tags and to have the ablity to auto-detect them, then submit a suggestion to product management. These are not very well known applications. |
