| You can report specific problems, but for non-trivial
documents the only safe way to view or print them is
with the application or an application-supplied viewer,
especially when using newer formats for which we we
haven't received viewers from Inso.
To change printing, you can either change NonTextPrinting
for all document formats, or for all formats, to CLVPT.
I think this is covered in the V2.7 Client Admin guide.
Changing launch or viewer for viewing is done by changing
the double-click action with Associate on the Options menu.
This is described in the online help.

2061.2 | Viewer print problem with Excel | BACHUS::CLEVELAND | L'Escargot | Thu Apr 24 1997 11:02 | 22 |
| I have a customer with a similar problem when printing form the viewer
but it's a bit more serious in that Teamlinks never comes back to the
user and trying to click Cancel to stop the print doesn't stop it.
From NT I was able to stop it OK (but it printed 1560 pages anyway when
the spreadsheet is only two pages long!). However, under Win95 (which
is what the customer has), stopping the process was a little more
difficult and resulted in the PC crashing, the same happened for the
customer. The printer then decided to crash too and had to be rebooted!
The user has TL 2.5-004 with Win95. I tried it out using TL2.7-001 with
Win95 and also NT 4.0 with Excel 7.0. (I forgot to ask what version of
Excel created the spreadsheet.)
I understand the comment about using the real application to be sure of
things working but given the slightly greater consequences of this
failure, is it worth any more investigation? I have the spreadsheet and
can easily forward it on. I can also escalate via IPMT if required.
Thanks,
Brian

2061.3 | Please get me the file. | bachlr.zko.dec.com::tamara::hovey | | Thu Apr 24 1997 16:49 | 22 |
| Please copy the excel file to xanadu:: and send me mail when you do
([email protected]).
The excel viewer is being used less and less now that spread sheets
are so often not just spreadsheets; but charts and OLE inserts, etc.
Since the viewers are given away for free, the vender can't make much
money selling them so I expect that efforts are being put elsewhere.
The excel viewer will (I believe) always print the entire spreadsheet.
It does not have a look ahead to see if all the cells on a particular
page are blank.
TeamLinks 2.5-004 does not support excel7. Even TeamLinks 3.0 EFT2 does
not have an excel 7 viewer; perhaps the file format hasn't changed since
excel 5 so the viewer just thinks it's excel 5.
As for .0; it doesn't sound like the word 7 file that doesn't print was
ever reported as a bug. Word7 should be working (because the file format
is the same as word 6).

and shipped it off to the vendor.
Thanks for the report.
