2021.0. "File Cabinet repair and copy" by KERNEL::BURDENI () Mon Mar 03 1997 09:28

    Hi,

can anyone tell me what the standard prctice for the following is.

I have a customer who is running Teamlinks v2.7, and is running the
TL File Cabinet Verify/Repair facility. From within Preferences for
this facility, there is an option Copy Repaired Drawers. (The drawers
which are being repaired are network drawers accessed by a number of
users). When this option is then run he has a copy of the drawer but
the original has a name change to ~~Drawername.

    Is this normal behaviour ?
Would it then be necessary for all networked users to access new file
    cabinet names ?
What is the recommended practice for Repairing a networked drawer ?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Ivan.

This is normal behavior. The concept is that the orignal is
damaged, so the user wants a new drawer with the same name
that is OK.

What I suggest is that the user first try repairing the drawer
without the copy option. If it repairs it to the users
satisfaction, then no further changes are required.

If the drawer is still not right, run the repair again, creating
a new copy. When this happens they may have a choice of options:

1.) Have all users of this drawer remove the old drawer and add the
new one.

2.) If the only items in the directory containing the old drawer belong
to that drawer, the contents could be moved/deleted. Then all of the
contents of the newly created drawer could be moved into the directory.
This would keep the users from having to add/remove drawers.

Option 1 is the safest. Option 2 would be easiest if there are a large
number of users accessing this drawer. Option 2 only works if the
directory only contains drawer data. Note with option 2, the person
actually doing the repair would still have to add/remove drawers since
their file cabinet would point to the new directory.
