2009.0. "Changing the "author" field in Word 7" by AIMTEC::GIANNETTI_D () Mon Feb 24 1997 13:30

TeamLinks 2.7-001
Windows 95
Word for Windows 7.0

We are using the File/New option from TeamLinks Information Manager to
create a Winword 6.0/7.0 document (in this case 7.0). When saving the
file, we noticed that the author is "TeamLinks Information Manager".

I tried going to the Tools/Options in Word and under "User Info"
changing the name to "my name" and then saving the document but it
still comes up as "TeamLinks Information Manager" in the author
field.

I then tried changing it via the File/Properties option. This changes
the author but only for that one session. Once Word has been closed
this change is lost.

I tested this scenario with TeamLinks 2.7-001 and Word 6.0 and I
get a different behavior. If you look at the File/Properties it
will state that "TeamLinks Information Manager" is the author, however,
it actually takes the author from the "User Info" when a save is
performed. It holds this value as a default and carries it to the
next session and so on.

The customer would like to manipulate this field on a permanent basis.
Is there a new method of achieving this?

Thanks in advance.

2009.1Modify template?TEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 09:436
Hi Debbie,

Why don't you try modifying the template file by going into it directly from
file manager and see if that doesn't do the trick?

Signe
2009.2Thanks Signe but read on...AIMTEC::GIANNETTI_DTue Feb 25 1997 11:2019
    Signe,

    Yours was a great idea but no cigar.

    We went to Windows Explorer, went to the TeamLinks template directory,
    double clicked on the Word template file, Changed the Tools/Options User
    info to "Beth Andres", changed the File/Properties to Elizabeth. Exited
    the file and saved these changes.

    Then from the TeamLinks Information Manager did the File/New and it
    brought us into the template file. Then we looked at the
    File/Properties and low and behold it remained Elizabeth, looking at
    Tools/Options User Info it was still Beth Andres but when you do the
    file/save to the file cabinet the author field is now BLANK. Feels
    like we're getting closer.

    Come on- I'll take you to lunch if you can solve this one.

2009.3works for meTEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 13:0710
I went to TEAMLINK/TEMPLATE and edited the winword7.doc file. I changed
TeamLinks in File Properties to Signe Maximous. Did a save and then closed
the file.

Just did a New and created a document. Did a save and it prompted me with
the last used folder, blank title, and Signe Maximous as author. There
must be some other variable at work here that keeps changing yours back to
Elizabeth.

I'll keep poking around -
2009.4Properties not user infoTEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 13:113
Wait a minute - just reread your reply. I didn't do anything with User
Info - just the File/Properties. Try that. I think TeamLinks must ignore
the user info and just use the properties.
2009.5What is Author= in office.iniOASS::ANDRES_BTue Feb 25 1997 13:5410
    Signe,

    Look at your office.ini file in the section [Filecab] for a
    field Author=. Is that field Signe Maximous? I can change
    File Properties for the template file and modify User Info
    but the value for the Author on the Save Window appears to
    come from Office.ini for me.

2009.6author=meTEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 14:249
Yes, the author=Signe Maximous.

If that is what TeamLinks picks up, what is the customer's issue?

Suppose they have shared template files, wouldn't they want the author field to
come from somewhere other than Word?

What exactly is their issue? It changed from one version of TeamLinks to the
next? Or it changed from one version of Word to the next.
2009.7author=change did nothingTEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 14:312
So much for the author= field - I changed it to Signe Olsen, but Word
keeps using Maximous.
2009.8Customer's probAIMTEC::GIANNETTI_DTue Feb 25 1997 15:2610
    Signe,

    The customer's problem is that with TeamLinks 2.5-4 and Wrod 6.0
    all was fine but they upgraded their Word to 7.0 and their TeamLinks
    to 2.7 and it now does not recognize the Author field for them and
    it will not recognize what is being saved in the User Info or in
    the Properties. It just keeps flipping back to "TEamLinks Information
    Manager" as the author (if doing a File/new from TeamLinks).

2009.9Try Exiting TL after changing Author=OASS::ANDRES_BTue Feb 25 1997 15:478
    Signe,

    After you changed the Author= field did you exit TeamLinks and
    reenter. I think I had to do this for the change to Author=
    to work.

2009.10depends on the system historyTEAMLK::alfras1_port18.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousTue Feb 25 1997 16:3012
After I changed office.ini, I exited TeamLinks and started again.

The system I am using is a new system which never had previous versions of
TeamLinks or Word. I started with Office 95 and TeamLinks V2.7 and then
added ECO1.

I just went to my old system which has been through every version of
Office and TeamLinks and it uses the author= field instead of anything I
plug into user info or properties.

I don't think I'll ever get that lunch...

2009.11PTR it if necessary.XANADU::cascobay.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanFri Feb 28 1997 10:2814
The Author= entry in the [Filecab] section of Office.ini is used by
the Filecab.dll's Save As dialog box. If memory serves, it's read
in only if the caller (the integration in this case) didn't explicitly
pass in an Author value to use.

So whether or not it comes into play is up to how the integration
uses it. I remember some changes done in this area to support the
Infoman File New function. It's possible that they didn't get
carried into Word 7.0, or that Word 7.0 behaves differently and
what worked for Word 6.0 doesn't work the same for Word 7.0. We've
had lots of cases like that. So maybe a PTR should be entered.

2009.12if no other name use author=TEAMLK::alfras1_port26.alf.dec.com::teamlk::maximousFri Feb 28 1997 11:217
The contents of the author= field seems to get used when
the file does not have one itself. For example, this morning
I imported an HTML file and it inserted the name I had put
in my office.ini the other day. Having forgotten that I changed
office.ini, I was quite surprised to see my other name plugged in.

2009.13PTR 11-3-1069XANADU::mrjoe.zko.dec.com::manana::famularoTue Mar 04 1997 15:0119
This problem is a bug.

A report has been entered in Engineering's Problem Tracking and Reporting
System as PTR 11-3-1069.

Description follows:

TeamLinks integration does not appear to be obtaining the "who launched me"
information which is necessary in setting the "author" for a Word 7 document
created via INFOMAN's "File New...".

This problem was reported in conference TEAMLINKS_WINDOWS/2009.

The current workaround is to modify the author in the
C:\TEAMLINK\TEMPLATE\Winword6.doc file, by opening the file directly from
Word, making the modification in "File | Properties | Author:", then
save the modified file. From this point on, all Word 7 files created via
INFOMAN's "File | New..." will be tagged with this author.
