2007.0. "Staging files being properly deleted...." by AIMTEC::LUCAS_A () Mon Feb 24 1997 10:50

    Customer is having problems with files remaining in the stagin
    directory. He is using 2.5-3 and 2.7 of TL. He would like to know
    if a document in the filecabinet is open during a system crash is
    the file deleted from the staging area or does it remain in the
    staging area? Majority of his mail is confidential and it must
    be removed from the staging area once the user reads the information.

    Any ideas?

2007.1auto cleanup of staging area added in TL 2.7XANADU::qwert.zko.dec.com::mcclungJohn McClung, 381-2774Mon Feb 24 1997 12:5082
Temp files in the staging area are not deleted after a system crash.
As of TL 2.7, temp files in the staging area are automatically deleted every 7
days. You can customize this behavior if you want (to do the cleanup more
frequently for eg.). This feature is described in the TeamLinks Client
Adminin Guide. I've included the relevant section here.

John

From TeamLinks Client Admin Guide:

TeamLinks might accidentally leave behind temporary files in a subdirectory of
the TeamLinks directory. The subdirectory is called STAGING. These temporary
files have such names as the following:

	*.TMP

	A1M*.*

	~IOS*.*

	~DEC*.*

	~FC*.*

Other applications might also use that directory. For example, if a user
launched a Microsoft Word document from TeamLinks, then later exited TeamLinks
(or if the system crashed), the working Word document might be in the staging
area.

By default, TeamLinks automatically deletes files every 7 days from the staging
directory without notification. However, you can change this behavior, and
other aspects of work file cleanup.

You can set up TeamLinks to:

	Display a prompt at a specific frequency asking if the files should be
deleted.

	Delete work files of a certain age or older.

The following table lists the settings for work file cleanup that are in
OFFICE.INI.

Setting	Description
StagingDeletePrompt	Whether to show the prompt. If the value is 0 (default),
no prompting occurs. If the value is 1, the prompt appears.
StagingDeleteFrequency	Number of days between prompting. The default is 7 days,
the maximum is 365, and a value of 0 means don't do auto-cleanup ever.
StagingDeleteAge	Age in days of files to delete. Only files of that age
or older will be deleted. The default is 7 days, the maximum is 365, and a
value of 0 means don't do auto-cleanup ever.
StagingDeleteLast	This entry is used by TeamLinks to determine how long it
has been since the last time the files in the staging area were cleaned up. You
should not change this setting.
StagingDeletePrompt allows a user to decide whether prompting should take place.
 If you set StagingDeletePrompt to 1, the user will see a prompt and can choose
not to delete the files.

Otherwise, deleting will proceed transparently according to the settings
established by StagingDeleteAge and StagingDeleteFrequency. Note that the
StagingDeletePrompt value has no meaning unless both StagingDeleteAge and
StagingDeleteFrequency have nonzero values.

Sample:

[TeamLinks]
StagingDeletePrompt=1
StagingDeleteFrequency=10
StagingDeleteAge=7
StagingDeleteLast=6

In the sample, the prompt appears every 10 days. If the user chooses to delete
old files, TeamLinks deletes files older than 7 days.

Note there are two ways to disable auto-cleanup: setting StagingDeleteFrequency
to 0, or setting StagingDeleteAge to 0.

Also Check Windows Temporary Directory: If the user needs more free disk space,
check the Windows temporary directory as well (usually located in
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) for temporary files that are not being removed by Windows.
