| The customer is not always right. Ask them to get that in writing
from Innasoft.

| Further to Nigel's message, (I think it is the same customer) the customer
has now sent the following message. Does anyone know the answer?
Regards,
Anne
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are currently evaluating the Mail Gateway product PMDF to
enable messages to be passed between our various mail systems. We
have an in-house legacy mail system based on ALL-IN-1 Services for
DOS, circa 1988.
This system passes non-text attachments in the format:
Record format: Variable length, maximum 512 bytes
We found a problem, whereby this legacy system would not process
files in Stream record format, which PMDF passed to it, and so we
configured PMDF to convert the Stream format files to Fixed
length, maximum 512 bytes and this seemed to work.
I have now been informed by a colleague in Hong Kong, where they
have some TeamLinks users, that message attachments for these
users have to be in Variable length record format. As we do not
run TeamLinks here I have no way of checking this.
Can you please clarify whether this is correct?

1989.3 | TL just saves WP docs in Block format. Everything else takes defaults. | XANADU::cascobay.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEAN | Bob St.Jean | Mon Feb 17 1997 18:36 | 29 |
| I'm not sure if this is a TL problem. You might need to get
someone from ALL-IN-1 to answer.
TeamLinks saves documents into the ALL-IN-1 FC via the FC Server.
It also gets document content via this server. The content files
fetched to the PC are converted to stream format, because that's
what all PC apps use.
When TL saves documents into the ALL-IN-1 FC it just lets the
server save using the RMS record format attributes that ALL-IN-1
normally uses. The only exception is for WordPerfect documents
which need to be stored in Block format so that the WP product
that runs on VMS can access the documents. The IosRecordFormat
entry in TLFORMAT.INI controls this and it's value is set to 2
for the WP file types. This setting tells the server to save
the WP file in block format.
That's all TL does.
When TL tells ALL-IN-1 to mail the message and it's attachments,
it's out of TL's hands at that point. I don't know what record
format PMDF requires. If it's converted on send, does it have
to be converted back on the receiving ALL-IN-1 system? Someone
from ALL-IN-1 would have to answer.
Maybe you should ask in the ALL-IN-1 notes conference.

| TeamLinks users can't read messages that are routed to ALL-IN-1
DESKtop users. DESKtop is also not supported on any version of
ALL-IN-1, where a modern version of TeamLinks is compatible. You
are going to have a difficult time finding anyone that can help
with very old versions of all 3 products. I'd guess that you
won't find anybody running it, that can test anything.

| Hi Nige,
I thought I'd pop up in here and annoy you today!! :-)
Stan Foster @OGO (now on Exchange) set up all the Digital PDMF gateways.
He must have some idea how it works as we seem to be able to send documents
internally - when it's not all so clogged up it's going nowhere...!
