| Corel WordPerfect 6.1 Update 5 for ODMA

Corel has released WordPerfect 6.1 Update 5 for ODMA.
The kit location is:
ftp.corel.com/pub/wordperfect/wpwin/61/odmar5.zip
The ZIP file contains a Readme.txt which explains how to manually install
the five updated files.
After installing this update, the Program Release Date in WP becomes
January 23, 1997.
Benefits
--------
This ODMA Update 5 contains all the updates from the first 4 updates.
This update contains an ODMA fix which is specific to TeamLinks. It
allows WP 6.1 to open ALL-IN-1 based documents which have a long Document
ID string.
Corel attempted to fix the first RO launch problem in this update. They
were not able fix it if the first RO file was launched by TeamLinks. But
they did fix it if the first RO file was launched by Explorer or File
Manager.
Known Problems
--------------
This is a list of the most important problems.
Problem #1628 - Sometimes WP crashes or hangs on startup. Usually this
happens if WP has been stopped and restarted many times. It cannot restart
if the WPWP61US.DLL file is still in memory. The best way to avoid this is
to start WP and just always keep it running.
Problem #2050 - Sometimes the first read-only launch does not work. This can
happen if a WP attachment in a received mail message is launched using
Information Manager. This is a general problem in WordPerfect 6.1 that has
nothing to do with ODMA. The work-around is to launch the attachment again.
(This problem doesn't occur in WordPerfect 7.)
Problem #2932 - Sometimes the first ODMA sytle launch of a WordPerfect
document from an ALL-IN-1 file cabinet does not work if WordPerfect 6.1
is not already running. More is known about this problem now. It has
been traced to a Win16 command line length restriction. Some ALL-IN-1
documents can be launched if the ODMA DocID string isn't too long. If
the drawer and folder names are kept short, then the launch will work.
This is not a problem with documents from MailWorks or TeamLinks Local
file cabinets. If a launch doesn't work, the work-around is to simply
do the Launch command again after WP has started.
Problem - When WP 6.1 opens a document using ODMA, it first opens the
document to get some infomration about it, then closes it, then finally
opens it again to display it. This can cause a noticable delay for
large documents and wastes network/server time. Corel plans to correct
this in WordPerfect 7.
Corel is aware of all these problems. However, they are currently focused
on updating WP 7 and development of the new WP 8. I don't expect any more
updates to WP 6.1 unless a major problem is uncovered.
