| My first thought as I read your note was 5200, but then you said it
had to be reworkable. I know that 5200 can be softened with heat, but I have
no idea how that would effect you gel coat. I think a heat gun will work, but
I don't know if a hair drier would be enough. I just replaced spinnaker
pole ends which had been glued in with 5200. I was absolutely amazed at
how secure those ends were. After heating the area with a propane torch I
was able to get the ends out. This is not a method I'd use on any of my
fiberglass. It takes a day or 2 to set, but the glue is there to stay. I
certainly wouldn't think about putting the board down before the stuff was dry.
Hey, what is this tape stuff?? Where is it applied? We have a new (to us)
F-27 and there is some slop in the board and I could still improve on the
kick up rudder. Is this tape something used to fill the gap between the board
and the trunk to take the slop out of the board? Is it availible at most
catamaran shops? What is it made out of? I think I'm very interested in this
stuff.

.1 >> Hey, what is this tape stuff?? Where is it applied?
The centerboard slot tape is used to cover the centerboard slot opening when the
boards are raised to improve downwind performance by reducing drag -> no open slot
and a relatively smooth surface that matches the hull shape. There are actually
two sections of tape on each centerboard slot - the board slides between the two
tape sections. About half (lenthwise) of each tape section covers the slot opening
while the other half is attached to the hull surface that surrounds the opening.
The material has a smooth (outside) surface and a textured surface which is bonded
to the hull. It comes in 2", 3" and 6" widths. Some Tornado sailmakes carry it but
I just bought some from Layline (800-542-5463). Same exact tape and less money
from Layline - about $1.55 per foot for the 3" tape.
