Yup. They selll these plastic boards to stick your numbers onto.
Attach the boards to your dinghy.
Some plastics are like that. I couldn't keep mt N.H. decals on my
windsurfer. I think it's polyethylene. Ended up putting one on mt
fibreglass mast.

Yeah, but Bill put a 75HP Merc on the windsurfer!
I put one of those boards on my Zodiac- then one of the crew rolled
it up with the plates still attached OOOOPS.
Then I bought rubber numbers- they looked like the same material as
the inflatable. The glue they suggested was like crazy-glue, I think,
and even tho the surface prep was overdone (acetone softened up the
surface) the numbers peeled off over a couple of years. I guess it's
time for Black Magic Marker... tho I have seen paint-on number kits.

2217.4 | Registration numbers for a windsurfer? You beccha. | UNIFIX::FRENCH | Bill French 381-1859 | Mon Jun 12 1995 14:18 | 13 |
| All sailboats over 12' in N.H. have to be registered.
The chief of the Marine Patrol allowed as to how I would be forgiven
if I didn't put the numbers on the board but that I would be cited
if I was checked and didn't have proper registration documentation
at least in my vehicle.
I know of the Marine Patrol stopping windsurfers and putting the
tape measure on them so see if they were over 12' or not.
Of course I also have to register my Sunfish. It's 14' long.
And my 20' Com-Pac Yacht

| Anybody know the policy in MA? Or who to contact for the definitive
answer? I have having a hard time finding out what is required for
my 16' sailboat.

| As I recall, the numbers need to be at 3" high and on both sides of the bow.
They must? be block letters. They may be painted or applied.
I had bought mine from SPAGS. Just put them on the gel coat. I never had any
trouble.

no motor? then you don't need numbers for that 16 footer. When Weld
came and threw all the clowns out, some went north to work for N.H.

measuring windboards, give me a break. Who is going to read them when
a guy is on a beam reach.....

| On the 16' sailboat, I went through the same thing about 8 or 9 years
ago when I tried to figure how to register my 470. Without a motor I didn't
need any sort of registration for the boat. There are even note in her with
me asking the same questions back in 1987.
As for the dinghy numbers. I have the plastic plates with contrasting
numbers and the registration sticker on one of them. I just have to remember
which one to put on port. They work okay, but can be a pain. I have them
hanging with string. I saw something recntly that gave me the idea to
tack some velcro on the boat and the numbers and attach it like that. I
haven't tried it yet, but I'll give it a try at some point.

| Be careful of velcro as it loses a significant amount of holding power
when wet.
