2160.0. "Coyote" by AKOCOA::DOUGAN () Thu Aug 25 1994 12:07

From the Boston Globe, August 25, 1994:

A rebuilt 60 foot sailboat on it's first major voyage since it capsized
in the mid-Atlantic nearly 2 years ago collided with a Canadian fishing
vessel in waters off Nantucket yesterday.

Coast Guard officials said no one was injured about 4a.m. when the Lady
Olive Marie, a 62' Swordfish boat from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and the
Coyote collided, causing damage to the fishing boat.

The fishing boat called both US and Canadian coast gurads to treport
the collision about 170 miles east off Nantucket....

The only sailor on the Coyote, David Skully of Dwight, Ill. was found
about 7a.m. on his boat about 15 miles from the collision site. He was
    headed for Newport, Rhode Island.

The previous owner, Michael Plant of Jamestown, Rhode Island had set
out in October 1992 from New York on his way to France on an
around-the-world solo race. His boat was found capsized in the
Atlantic Ocean about a month later. Plant, whose body has never been
    found, is presumed drowned.

The Coyote is now owned by Helen Davis, who was engaged to Plant.......

Skully was sailing the boat back (from the Azores) alone....

The cause of the collision is under investigation."

Geeze that boat must be cursed...

The article said USGC dropped pumps from choppers- so a lightweight
racing boat holed a big Canadian fishing trawler, then went on it's
merry way? Boyoboy the Concordia folks must have bulletproofed her
    	the second time around...

I guess that guy was sposta be delivering Coyote home from
Portugal (?) singlehanded. Another gutsy Scott from Illinois!!
