Problem: A british boat in america...
Thru Hull Fitting on Thames Marine 26 Snapdragon, 1971 vintage.
Gate valve from cockpit drain, someone had a iron nipple
going from gate valve to hose to cockpit drain.
Threads approx 12/inch, 1 1/8 OD....Threads in gate valve
are clogged up with iron.. I would replace gate valve with
a seacock but I am not sure what the threads are....
If I plug the thru hull, remove the gate valve and try to replace I
run the risk of: 1, breaking loose the thru hull which appears to
have some glass surrounding it, or 2. Not finding a seacock with
threads that match the thru hull fitting.
I csn't get the junk out of the threads to use a thread gage.
The gate velve says "Jones"
Do I need to buy a 1971 British Seacock with ???? threads?
Do I need to replace the thru hull?
Will a 1" NPS seacock do the trick?
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks

What about twisting it off and taking it to a marine store to see if
they have one that fits? Our 1969 vintage Soctland built boat accepted
whatever the stadard size was 1 1/8 (?). No problems with a 1990
vintage valve. I doubt you will distrub the through hull unless it was
not cinched down with a locking nut or glassed before the valve was
installed.

re: .0, Geeze, if you are who I think you are, I'd suggest sinking the
d*$%#@ boat. ;^) Seriously, I'd agree with Brian, if you can
get it off. If this is an opportunity to get rid of the gate
valve, I'd take advantage of it.

I would remove the gate valve if I was sure to find a new one with the
correct threads,,
,
If I can't match up the threads I will need to change the Thru Hull
fitting which are molded into the hull,
So I need to fine a valve that has 12 threads per inch and 1 1/8 OD
approx.
Or change the Thru Hull in the fall///
thanks

Are you trying to do this in the water? I would not suggest changing
the valve if the boat is in. Your thread spcifications sound common
enoungh but I would not risk sinking the boat to make the change now.
