2131.0. "Florida chandleries" by TFH::KTISTAKIS (Mike K.) Fri May 20 1994 12:28

I will be at the West Palm Beach in Florida for the first half of
June for my son's wedding and with plenty of free time at my disposal
I wonder if there is any Used Marine Equipment establishments around
there to browse? Also any such business in Tampa, where I may go for a
day or so. I was told that there are plenty of use equipment business
in Miami but I am not comfortable going there in a car with Mass. lic.
plates.Anybody familiar with the place and this kind of stores?

    Thanks....Mike K.

I would not hesitate going to Miami with out of state plates. The
influx of tourists and transients (retirees etc.) in the winter is
tremendous and more than a few of them are from MA. It is relatively
safe or at least no more unsafe than any other urban area. I would also
check around Ft. Lauderdale just north of Miami.

It's good that you realize the reputation Mass. drivers have.
If you keep your driving finger to yourself, you probably
won't be popped by South Florida drivers.

There is Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale -- State Road 84 at
Federal Highway -- near the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Lots of 'recycled' stuff. I don't know what you're
expecting, but most used stuff in Florida has had a pretty
harsh life of sun and salt.

    I also found:
DC Used Marine (wierd, no street) Ft. Lauderdale 305 722-8054

Sea Chest Salvage, 2211 Broadway Riveria Beach
    	(Yuck, I'd rather go to Miami) 305 407 848-9500

Thank you guys. I did go to all places refered on reply #2.
A lot of stuff if you have the time to look around but the two things
I was looking for, boom gallows and a... turtle(rigid cover for the
companionway sliding hatch) did not find.
In a store in Miami I asked the owner if they were any other places
around to look for these items and safe for me to go there.
Don't worry man you are in the worst section right now, he replied.
