2097.0. "Awlgrip, how resistant to UV?" by HAEXLI::PMAIER () Wed Nov 17 1993 11:03

What life can be expected from a hull treted with Awlgrip ?

I know, how long International is keeping its gloss, and I know,
that this year on the boatshow there was no paints shown in
the International boot, only antifoulings; no, Micron did not have
the same importance as other years, VC17 is now number 1.
It looks like, International has acquired the company which produces
    VC17.

Ok, back to Awlgrip. How long ? 3 years or 5 years ?

    Thanks Peter

We painted our then new boat with Awlgrip in 1983. Except for normal
wear and tear from bumping docks and guests dropping winch handles
the paint looks as good as new. UV is certainly not a problem...

Anyone have the scoop on the new Awlgrip 2? According to the magazine
ads, it lasts longs, better UV and the VOCs are now neglible.

Are they going to sell it to the public?

I called US Paint and found out the following:

    1. The paint is not currently on the market. They have a couple of
special projects going on to teach painters how to use it.

    2. Do not expect to see it available for 6-12 months.

    3. They are still not going to sell to the public when the paint comes
    	out.

    4. It can still be sprayed on.

    5. It is excellant at staving off UV and Acid rain.
