Edgartown probably has the most going on. But I'd anchor in Vinyard
Haven or grab a mooring in Oak Bluffs, myself. There's a sort of
trolley that runs between the major towns that's pretty cheap, or
bicycle or moped if you want more independence.
It's a fun place, and not a bad sail from Sippican. The Woods Hole
currents _are_ al sorts of fun tho- I had my motor turning for all it
was worth, making very little headway against that current- you may
want to opt for Robinson's Hole if the timing is wrong-
Have a ball!

| We have had good luck anchoring in Edgartown. Mooring prices are
ridiculous there but they do include unlimited launch service and
showers ashore if so desired. We were able to dinghy ashore and land
near the town dock which is also close to the yacht club. I like the
Navigator near the water, expensive but it was good. There was a
decent little diner near the bike rental spot on the water also.
Cheap, good, and greasy just as a diner should be.
Vineyard Haven has the ferries that run in and out until late in the
evening which can make it rolly. You can also anchor on the outside if
you desire and dinghy in.

| I just came back from 4 days on MV. We sailed from Wareham, through
Woods Hole, to Lake Tashmoo, Vineyard Haven and home again.
People, people, people all over the place in Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs
and Edgartown. These three towns are nothing more than an extension of
all that is touristy on the Cape, avoid at all costs. Lake Tashmoo was
quiet and not crowded. Anchoring is permitted. If you go in, watch
out for a sandbar just as you come in. I have heard Menemsha is also
great, go in a high tide.
Public transportation is $2-$4 round trip on the island. Bikes, pedal
and motorized available form $10-$35 per day. Bus tours also
available. The trendy restaurant is the Black Dog, expect a long wait
for a table, but food is great, high prices I have heard.
I was in a F27 Tri so we had no problems with depth (draws 14 inches)
or anchoring up close to the shore. Lake Tashmoo's shore is all
private. There is a landing on the east side with a paved road. If
taken, the road will lead you over the hill into Vineyard Haven. About
a mile and one half walk. No facilities, other than a phone, are at
the landing.
If you have not tried it, I would recommend Cutty Hunk over MV for
peace and quiet and unspoiled scenery.
