My understanding from the radio ads is this is a power boat ONLY show. Dan
1987.2 | Power boat it was. | TFH::KTISTAKIS | Mike K. | Mon Jan 11 1993 17:04 | 18 |
re : . 1 I guess it is kind of a power boat only. As a matter of fact I would say that it is a very good power boat show.Too many of them and some very beautifful.(don't know how good though) As for sail,the biggest one was a HUNTER 28 and the next a CATALINA 22 also a couple of smaller daysailors.Hardly any equipment this year,even the GINSU knife vendor was absent. For a sailor besides the waste of money it is a waste of time also. For a power boater,or to phrase it better,if I was a power boater I would go there every year. Dan, did you do the trip last weekend on the CT. Regards Mike K.
1987.3 | Miami the wear your feet out show | STAR::KENNEY | Thu Feb 18 1993 11:36 | 32
Just back from the Miami International Boat show. The grand daddy of the shows. At the sailing venue the bulk of exhibits were multihulls. The number of boats and exhibitors seemed smaller than in past years. In the main convention center more of the same with more booths for the chandlery folks with most doing a pretty fair business. The convention center had a much higher percentage of performance boats than I remember from my last visit. The in the water show seemed about the same as in the past with slightly fewer large over 80+ foot yachts. This could have been because of the brokerage show on Colins Ave that was mostly yacths of 80 feet or larger. All in all an interesting show. I would find it hard to justify the expense just to go for the show but I go and stay with friends and that lowers the cost quite a bit. For the one design/phrf racer the hot boat appeared to be the Zenda Express. This 24 footer carries a provisional phrf rating of 120. Cost ready to go is 24K it looked interesting but the boat on exhibit was a test mule and did not have the carbon fiber spar. They had just finished sorting out the sail inventory and the mounting points on the spar. While talking to the two guys at the booth they were praising the the show in Atlantic city. They said even with the hassles from the unions it was a great show, all sail boats with many exhibitors who had not displayed at a boat show before. He also said that the exhibitors and organizers worked to help on another out which does not happen at other shows. Kind of wish I had taken the time to go down..... Forrest
