| Cant resit telling a story on this one.
Stan Rogers wrote and recorded on his last album a song MAN WITH BLUE
DOLPHIN. Its the story of a man, Joe Pica, and his attempts to save an
old schooner. The schooner BLUE DOLPHIN is 120', built in Nova Scotia
the year after the BLUENOSE and essentially a yacht version of
BLUENOSE. Joe bought the boat in Boothbay ME in April 1972. I helped
him get the ship commisioned (starting the Wolverine diesel after years
of layup was another stor). We sailed the ship around Nova Scotia into
the great lakes and started its renovation. In September of 1972 DEC
moved me from Detroit to Maynard, so my active work on BLUE DOLPHIN
ended. I still keep in tough with Joe.
Listen to MAN WITH BLUE DOLPHIN. Its really a sad story of a guys
determination to save a boat. He's loosing.

| I just finished sitting on the rail for seven days during the
Annapolis-Bermuda Ocean Race. That's 728 NM completely up wind. The
wind machine sat on Bermuda and blew towards the Chesapeake Bay the
whole race.
Besides developing a severe case of "rail-butt" I had plenty of time
to let my mind wander. The result is this little "sea-dittie" I
thought I would share.
THE GRINDER'S LAMENT
Words by Dan Kilgore, Annapolis/Bermuda Race 1994
(pending publication)
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, I grind winches strong.
I grind though the evening, I grind all day long.
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, I don't navigate,
but if you should ask me, bad data I'll make.
Chorus
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, N'er seen a galley,
but when suppers called, I'll be there in three.
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, the helm's not for me,
a skipper once tried me, we sailed by the lee.
Chorus
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, I avoid the foredeck,
with pitching and rolling a man could get sick.
I'm a grinder, I'm a grinder, it's what I do best,
and when watch is over, it's below to get rest.
Chorus
_________
Chorus
Heave, Ho, tail the bitter. Heave Ho, the call to sheet in.
Heave, Ho, ready about.
That's when the damn trimmer, will ease it all out.
Sung (very) loosely to the tune of "Clementine"
