| In response to Chris Van Heeswijk (since I don't seem to be able to
reply to his request..nowrite privs), I use WEST MARINE in Watsonville,
California, U.S.A. for all or most of my marine needs. They are very
customer oriented and always provide excellent service.
The 1992 Master Catalog lists several hand-held GPS units. The Garmin
GPS 100 and GPS 50 are both very compact. They both feature a three
line LCD display giving you speed over ground, course over ground, time
to go, cross track error, velocity made good, course to steer, etc.
The GPS 50 is the least expensive starting at $999.00. For a little
more money I like the Interphase Starpilot GPS starting at $1399.00 or
the Humminbird GPS with map. The latter wouldn't do your much good as
the map is of the United States. It starts at $1899.00.
You can call West Marine at 800-538-0775 to order or to have them send
you a catalog. I don't know if the 800 # will work from Germany but I
expect that you will be able to work it out.
Hope this helps.

| The Garmin GPS-50 is available from Boat US at $747. I have also seen it at
similar prices in other catalogs. To buy from Boat US you must become a
member ($12.50). I don't know what their policy is on overseas shipments.
