| I purchased a daysailer in Mass. last summer. I could have picked it
up at the dealer and signed a "slip" stating that I did the actual
delivery to New Hampshire (the same as if a NH resident buys a car in
Mass). I had them deliver it for $25.00. Of course, you pay NH taxes
to register the boat, but no sales tax.

| I bought a boat last Spring from a Massachusetts dealer who also has a
yard in New Hampshire. The boat was eventually to be registered in
Vermont. If the boat were delivered in Mass., the dealer would have
been required to collect Mass. sales tax. Vermont is also a sales tax
State and I would have had to prove to Vermont that I had paid it in
Mass. Instead, I picked up the boat in NH, and paid the Vermont sales
tax when I registered the boat there. I paid no tax to NH upon delivery
there. In general, when registering a boat in a sales tax State, they
will make you pay the tax upon registration, or prove that you still
own it and paid tax upon original purchase in another State.
