1947.0. "Scituate" by CARTUN::GYOUNG () Mon Oct 19 1992 16:44

We're moving a Pearson 36 from Beverly to Marion over the
weekend. Plans call for us to sail to Scituate and pick
up some additional crew ..... could someone give me a rundown of the
    harbor in Scituate ??

Also, the name of a marina there where we can get a slip for
a night if necessary. A couple of bars ... er, restaurants that
are in walking distance would be helpful too.

    Thanks

    Greg,

In the '92 NYNEX Boaters' Yellow pages I found Scituate Harbor Marina,
617-545 2165. I don't know what they have to offer, but you can call.

The Scituate Harbormaster also had slips which he rented when I was
there last year. I don't have a number for them. During the prime
part of the season they usually recommend reserving in advance.

Once you go ashore in Scituate you are near the downtown area. There
are a could of restaurants withing easy walking distance of your boat
if you leave it at the harbormaster's slips. Use of the showers go
with the harbormaster's slips, otherwise it was something like a dollar
or two if they decided to charge.

Times I've been in there I used a mooring provided by calling Scituate
Harbor Easyrider on channel 09. Of course, this time of year Easyrider
    may have headed south.

If you opt for a mooring, and your draft allows it, go for the inner
harbor. It's smoother there, and it's a shorter ride to the town
float, where you can tie your own dinghy if you are so equipped and
    inclined.

    Greg,

Dave's assessment is correct. Our one and only "long" trip of the
summer was to Scituate so my experiences are recent! The main dock
restaurant (whose name escapes me) is good, and there are a number of
other good restaurants all within walking distance. Also, if you get
in early enough, you can buy cooked lobsters at the local fish store or
the gas/bait dock near the yacht club.

Easy Rider is the ONLY launch service in the harbor. He also serves as
the appointed mooring master. Its 15 bucks for the night with unlimited
launch service. I believe he is now on channel 9 for hailing.

Showers are a buck or two at the main town landing (housed with the
    harbormaster).

    Have fun !

If a mooring is a possibility, you may want to try Scituate Harbor
YC or Satuit Boat Club. They also have launch service & showers, and
plenty more friendliness(sorry editorializing!). Longer walk to town,
by 3 or 4 blocks, tho! The BIG restaurant is the Mill Wharf (fine view,
OK menu), or Pier 44, or several inbetween whose names escape me.

Almost any store accessable by foot- easy to restock the goodies!
