1918.0. "Cordage discounts?" by FSOA::BERICSON (MRO1-1/L87 DTN 297-3200) Wed Aug 26 1992 14:27

    A boston sailing friend.. whom I have lost track of once told me that
    there was a cordage manufacturer near Logan that sold "blemish" and
    ends at good discounts. Anyone know where this might be?

1918.1West Marine used to....POWDML::SPENCER_JWed Aug 26 1992 17:526
    West Marine years ago was based in Boston in one of the warehouses
    adjacent to Logan. They sold cordage, including discount inventory.
    They moved to CA quite a few years ago, though. Perhaps your friend is
    thinking of this, or there's maybe a new outfit around.

1918.2Same as the outlet?FSOA::BERICSONMRO1-1/L87 DTN 297-3200Thu Aug 27 1992 10:294
    Sounds like it might be the place... same West Marine that just opened
    a place on 1A (Peaabody?)?

    Yup. They moved lock, stock and barrel to CA, and have since enjoyed
    enough growth that they're re-establishing retail outlets in various
    places along each coast. Mail order is still through the CA HQ.

    re .2

    This is the first I heard of a West Marine Store in Peabody. Can I ask
    you to post directions to the new store? It happens I was planning to
    visit Marine Exchange soon and may also want to stop at this store.

    Thx, Bob

    Directions to West Marine Store, Peabody:

    If proceeding from Boston, get on Rt 1 North. When Rt 1 and Rt 95
    split in Peabody (or Danvers), not sure, stay on old Rt 1. You'll
    go down a hill, and up the other side. Its on top of the hill, North
    bound side.

    If proceeding south on Rt 95, get off on Rt 1 South in Danvers. Go by
    the Marine Exchange, and turn around first opportunity (I believe this
    will be the underpass in Saugus, just past Town Line House. Then use
    directions above.
