1865.1 | Trailer with extender. | CARTUN::MARINR::DARROW | Warm weather, a cool breeze | Wed May 13 1992 15:00 | 13 |
| We have an ODay 222 with a shoal draft fixed keel. Draws approx 2 ft
with the center board up. After practically drowning my Pathfinder the
first time we launched, I added a ten ft extension (provides 8 ft extra
length).
We have a single axel trailer WITH OUT brakes and at 2250 lbs dry, it
is certainly border line at best. If your boat weighs more than 1500, I
would recomend brakes and if she's over 2000, then double axel as well.
Please feel free to contact me off line for more info.

1865.3 | Cheap extenders | FSOA::BERICSON | MRO1-1/L87 DTN 297-3200 | Wed May 13 1992 16:24 | 11 |
| I have trailed a 2000 lb sailboat with swing keel for over 10 years.
The cheap and easy way to extend is to carry a length of chain.
Put front wheel of trailer down.
Tie off chain to car (tight)
slowly back down, letting trailer sink. (assuming ramp tilt.)
As a back up I carry a length of square aluminum (6') with a trailer
hitch on one end and ball on the other. Put fron wheel down attach
"pusher" and do the same as above... this was made from parts at the
dump.

1865.4 | Forget it. | ACTHUB::RYAN | | Thu May 14 1992 15:49 | 10 |
| As far as used trailers, forget it. I wrote a note identical to yours
a year ago with the same request. People with trailers don't sell them
to make money since they minimally need them for (1) winter storage,
and (2) subsequent resale. Brokers and yards will tell you that once
in a blue moon one comes along ... usually because the owner discovered
that towing even a 22' is a pain. J-World in Newport sometimes sells
them ... but not for that much less than new (new is about
$2,000-2,500). J-World can also broker for trailers for a good price.

| yup. me too
got mine through the Want Advertiser. looked at 3-4 for about a month.
wound up using a flat, tandem axle trailer with my old boat cradle
bolted to the bed. Hasn't moved an inch during towing.
Problem is that the rig sits higher than a custom built trailer and -
at the place I haul out - can only be lifted at high tide.
Ron
p.s. but it is still less expensive than yard storage.

1865.6 | trailor 26 foot deep fin | DENVER::SOFALY | | Fri Jul 17 1992 01:39 | 12 |
| I currently trailor my Ericson 26. Deep fin 4'11" draft. To get it in
and to retrieve I utilize two (for safety) 60' lines . One end to the
truck and the other up high on the trailor. Works pretty good. Just
finished trailoring from Heron Lake New Mexico 7200' msl to San Carlos
Mexico, Sea of Cortez, about 780 miles each way. Boat is 13'6" at highest point.
Trailrite custon made the trailor for $4400. I had a blowout on right
front of trailor coming back at about 55mph. Melted the tire but no
swerve. Best of luck!
