1849.2 | A good deal | AKO539::KALINOWSKI | | Wed Apr 08 1992 13:35 | 16 |

The boat new goes around 10-12K. It is one of the most expensive beach
cats made. They are known to be very sea worthy. The down side is at
their price, there are not a lot of them around.
At 400 bucks (heck I paid that much for my spinnaker pole, or even one
of my dagger boards), you cann't go wrong. Get a Murray's Marine
catalog (phone number is in one of the multihull notes), as they can
make any rigging that may be missing, along with a good selection of
generic go-fast parts. You can expect to get 3-4K for the boat from
what I have seen in the Want Ads if it is in decent shape.
Since you have sails, you have templates if you wanted to buy a new
set. You should jump on this if you have the time to have fun sailing.

Regarding what to look for, check the multihull notes on how to
buy various Hobies here. You need to look for exactly the same
things (previous hull damage, bent mast, solid pylons etc).
A beach cat is a beach cat.

1849.4 | they are fast | TARKIN::MCALLEN | | Wed Apr 08 1992 15:04 | 22 |
| I've replied offline regarding this. I would
agree that $400 is an extremely attractive price.
I purchased a used Supercat-20 last year and
am very happy with it. Many of the Supercat
designs have epoxy-foam-epoxy hulls. This
implies differences in surveying and repair,
I think.
Although Supercats are beachcats, I've been told
their fine bow entry shape and fairly horizontal
(unflared) bow bottom make them somewhat more
prone to bow damage than other cats, upon hard
beaching. By "hard" I mean either at high speed,
or onto very coarse beach material. Just not quite
as abrasion or puncture resistant as some of the
blunter-bowed catamarans. I wedge a cushion under each
bow point whenever leaving mine beached overnight, if
there is much liklihood of wave or wind induced motion.
Normally I beach only on sand or fine gravel.
I believe newer Supercats designs have thicker (heavier)
epoxy layups in the susceptible lower bow sections.

1849.5 | I purchased the Super Cat 17 | NEMAIL::BRIGGS | | Fri Apr 10 1992 10:32 | 13 |
| John, I ended up purchasing the Super Cat 17 for $375. From the replies
I received I feel like a landed a great deal. I checked for the
potential problems you outlined and also the looked into the multihull
notes and received more info. The boat appears to be in good condition,
I could not find any major problems with the boat. The seller also had
a Murry's parts and price book that he gave me. I'm located on an
average size lake in NH and I hope it's enough for the boat. If not I
will probably think about selling it at a good profit.
Thanks for the info....

Congratulations!!
You will love it. We will be having a free catamaran clinic in a
couple of weeks in Freetown Ma. All makes of catamarans are welcome.
This will be a great time to pick up some tips, meet some potental
crew, and have a great day Sailing.
Check those notes for places to put her in. And don't forget to get
your Fed sticker if you are going to venture into the ocean (16 ft
and up ;>( ).

1849.7 | steal of the century | ACTHUB::RYAN | | Tue Apr 14 1992 17:16 | 4 |
| $375 is a steal! You'll soon find that your supercat is too fast for
most NH lakes and you'll want to venture to Sunapee, Newfound,
Winnespesaukee, etc. A catamaran in a small lake is like a thorough
bred race horse in your back yard...

1849.8 | Good Job...Mine cost $2650 in '87 | LUNER::MALCOLM | | Fri Apr 17 1992 14:28 | 20 |
| RE: .0
Sounds like a great deal. I have an '82 SuperCat 17 (Sail # 293).
If you are ever in Wolfeboro, I'd love to see the boat to see what you
you got for your money. If you need parts, MATRIX Marine (aka Supercat)
has all the parts for the boat. They are also currently building the
17, 19XL, the new 22', and the RC27. Matrix's phone number is
612-426-3922.
I believe the new price for a 17 is 6-7K, but you still got a great
deal.
Supercat is having the Nationals this year in July in Manitowoc,
Wisconson on Lake Michigan. The 1991 Nationals were in Long Island
Sound (Great Peconic Bay). I went last year, had a great time, and am
definatly going this year.

1849.10 | Supercat 1993 Nationals on Lake Winnipesaukee | WEDOIT::MALCOLM | | Wed Jun 30 1993 16:28 | 30 |
| Since this is as close to a "Supercat" note as we have, I'll enter this
here.
Supercat is having the 1993 Supercat USA Regatta this year in New
Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. The dates are July 26 thru July 30.
The race site will be Ellacoya State park in Gilford, NH.
I attended the last 2 years in Long Island and Wisconson and had a
great time both years.
The boats involved will be the Supercat 15's, 17's, 19's, 20's, 22's
and possibly one or more RC27's. I also understand Bill Roberts will
be attending and sailing either on his new 22 or on a 17.
The races will be a combination of some distance races and also some
triangle courses.
For more info, send mail to WEDOIT::MALCOLM or call me /leave message
at 603-569-6740. I'll be on vacation from July 1-9. I have registration
forms and itinerarys available. My DTN is 223-0251.
I also will probably be looking for some people interested in crewing
on some of the boats. I'm not sure right now how many openings I'll
have, but I'll start a list and keep anyone interested informed.
Thanks
Scott (who is glad he gets a break from driving this year)
