| The French are avid sailors, and there are several places to charter.
near Cannes. There are several local islands to vist and some great
beaches, restaurants and vinyards.
Some friends and I chartered a 40' Catamaran and sailed the coast one
year. We liked is so much, we went back and sailed to the the Island
of Corsica, about 100 nmiles south and stayed for one week. It was a
Great trip!

| Certainly no shortage of rental opportunities in the Cannes area ...
Below you'll find an extract of the Minitel/Videotex service. The ones
I've marked at the right margin, I've personally rented from and found
OK (I've just returned from a 4� year relocation in Valbonne and used to
be skipper of the DEC sailing club).
Performance Yachting in Cannes give us (DEC) usually a good deal, which is
season dependent.
Final note : I don't know how good their english is. Be prepared that some
agencies speak only french, especially during off-season.

What is it you need (licence/permis etc.) to rent a boat (sail/motor)
of various sizes? And from experience what sort of deposit do they
require?
I know we spoke of this around Remys one night but it could be interest
to others who are thinking of chartering in the area.

| Pack sweaters! When I was there in winter, it was too cold to sail
comfortably. I suggest maintaining the option of staying ashore and
drinking wine.

Yes at the moment it's normally warm during the day, no need for a
jumper/sweater, but at night the temperature can hover around a couple
of �C.
In Valbonne it's common to have to scrap the frost off the car in the
morning!

There is a notesfile at DEC which is dedicated to european sailing
( think it's called Europe_Sailing or some such...)
Would you be kind enough to contact them and ask for the names and
numbers of some charter companies that will do weekend charters in
the Cote D'Azur or in Liguria?
Or if there are representatives for them in Trentino (not likely?)
