I'm reading a book by Tom Hill called "Ultralight Boatbuilding." His method uses 4 mm marine mahogany plywood and epoxy to build canoes and other small boats. Becasue there is no internal frame, the boats are very light i.e. 44 lbs. for a 14 ft. canoe. Anyone familiar with this method? I'd appreciate a discussion of the pros and cons. Thanks. Lou P.S. 1743.2 | Lauchings - 14' Ultralight Canoe | SMURF::YELGIN | Wed Sep 16 1992 18:27 | 12 | |
I built the 14' ultralight canoe this summer and just launched it on Labor Day. It really came out beautifully. There is nothing like the gleam of varnished mahogany. If anyone is thinking about building a canoe using Tom Hill's 4mm epoxy plywood method, I would be happy to answer questions or give advice. regards, Lou |
