1743.0. "Ultralight Boatbuilding" by SMURF::YELGIN () Mon Jun 17 1991 18:41

    I'm reading a book by Tom Hill called "Ultralight Boatbuilding."
    His method uses 4 mm marine mahogany plywood and epoxy to build
    canoes and other small boats. Becasue there is no internal
    frame, the boats are very light i.e. 44 lbs. for a 14 ft. canoe.

    Anyone familiar with this method?

    I'd appreciate a discussion of the pros and cons.

    Thanks.

    This note was write locked by the moderator because I did not
    submit keywords. I did so a month ago and the note has finally
    been unlocked.

    Thank you to those of you who took the time to write to me directly.
    Now, we can use the notesfile and share our pearls of wisdom with

1743.2Lauchings - 14' Ultralight CanoeSMURF::YELGINWed Sep 16 1992 18:2712
    I built the 14' ultralight canoe this summer and just launched it on
    Labor Day. It really came out beautifully. There is nothing like
    the gleam of varnished mahogany.

    If anyone is thinking about building a canoe using Tom Hill's 4mm
    epoxy plywood method, I would be happy to answer questions or give
    advice.

    regards,

    Lou
