After years of planning, we are finally making the jump and taking a year off to sail. This has been a dream of my husband since he was a child and a goal to which he has worked his whole life. We will be leaving Falmouth Foreside, Maine on or about June 10 aboard our ketch Northern Light. We will be heading for the Hudson River - Erie Canal -- and Lake Erie to spend a month near family/friends. From there we will travel south spending some time in the Chesapeake, and then Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and possibly the Bahamas. We will be looking for a warmer place (than New England) to relocate. We are both excited and anxious about the impending trip. Lots of logistics to work out, but things appear to be falling into place. We want to thank the participants of this file for most helpful answers to our queries in the past and for a wealth of sailing knowledge. We wish you all happy sailing in the days ahead. Helaine and Bruce

1719.1 | Farewell! | HURON::HOLZER | Wed May 29 1991 18:04 | 16
Greetings Helaine, It's great to see a couple realizing their cruising dream. My boat is drydocked in Jamestown, RI at the moment, perhaps we can raft up and give you a proper sendoff on this voyage. Hopefully it will be launched by the time you're passing the Buzzard's Bay - Newport areas. In any event, let me know when you will be transiting the area and perhaps we could celebrate your coming adventure with a glass of wine or beer. Any other noters interested in giving these folks a good farewell should feel free to respond as well! Fair winds, a safe and enjoyable passage to both of you. Rich

Rich, If all goes as planned, we should be in Red Brook Harbor on the 13th or 14th of June passing through your location shortly thereafter. We are a 40' Blue and White Ketch, "Northern Light". Thanks for the good wishes!! Helaine P.S. This is my last day at DEC (after over 10 1/2 years!), so I will not be able to read or reply to any other notes after today... |
