This last weekend Murphy jumped on my boat about 100 feet from my slip and killed the engine. The only damage from the "dead stick" landing was a two foot scrape on the bow pulpit caused by the concrete piling. Has anyone had success refinishing stainless by, wet sanding, filing, or any other means. The damage is a visual thing, no deep scratches. One thought is to leave it alone because any fix will probably dull the finish surrounding the damage and just bring more attention to the area. Other ideas welcome. Chuck

To clean off the damaged area :Very Fine wire wool with much liquid metal polish or jewlers polish, followed by more metal polish and finally a polish with boat wax over the whole pulpit. I watched some friends being paid (Well they do build cats and repair boats etc) to do this on a very flashy Gin palace that had an altercation with the lock at the entry to the marina. Sometimes they also start with Wire Wool and pure turpentine. If there is a lot of scratching it may be better to try the above and leave it unless you feel like paying a great deal to have it fixed...... Hope it helps. Pete | |||||

Last year someone banged up my bow rails at a slip --- I took a dremal tool (little high speed drill) some red rouge & a buffing pad & it Looked Brand New in 10 min. Go real light pressure, a little at a time & clean it up to see how it looks before proceeding again -- it's real easy. If you have a rough edge (I did) file it lightly first. On lighter scratches I have found Toothpaste & paper towels to do a great job. Finish up with Never-Dull of a stainless polish. When it's all done re-tune the engine (Hmmmm.. I thought you guys Sailed into the slips....:>) Call if you want to discuss. Good Luck, Lou_the_token_stink_potter |
