1695.0. "MOORING SAFETY" by MEMORY::BURBINE () Mon Apr 01 1991 09:04
HI,
I could not seem to find a note on MOORING SAFETY so thought I
may start one. I just wanted to get some meaningfull discussion
started on ths safety aspects of moorings.
Now that the boating season is upon us PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO
INSPECT(or have someone do it) YOUR MOORING GEAR.
If you did not use a winter stick then it is even more important
that you check the chain for any wear that would weakin the
system. Just becaus the chain looks good where you can see it
does not mean it is good below. I recently found a chain that was
1/3 its original diameter on one link. Replaced the section with
a new one.
Also be real careful if you fasten your pennant under the mooring
ball as this is real risky. Seems the balls that have the chain
through the middle work best. Also If the top does not have a
bolt through it to hold the weight of the chain or a wear ring
don't buy it. I had balls manufactured for me without one of
these features and learned the hard way.
HAPPY BOATING
