1613.0. "Foreign charts, etc, in US?" by ROYALT::FGZ (Federico Genoese-Zerbi A/D X-terminal Effort) Mon Oct 15 1990 14:12

I scanned the notesfile, but found not entries on this subject, so here
goes...

Does anybody know of a good source in the Boston area (or mail order house)
for European charts, coastal pilots, etc.?

1613.1Try Ocean Navigator magazineNAS007::WINTERSMon Oct 15 1990 17:145
    Ocean Navigator magazine has ads for such each month, but I don't
    recall any in the Boston area.

    If you let me know where you hide out, I can send you a UK sailing
    magazine with lots of lists of available pilots, charts etc... which
    are as easy as pie, to order via mail, or phone & ask for further
    details. It just depends which part of the world you are interested in.
    Kind regards, Nick.
1613.3GERMAN HYDROGRAPHIC INSTITUT MIGHT HELPKBOMFG::LOESTTue Oct 16 1990 06:547
    THE GERMAN HYDROGRAPHIC INSTITUT HAS A LARGE VARIETY OF CHARTS AN OTHER
    NAVIGATION INFORMATION. I BELIEVE THEY DELIVER WORLDWIDE. IF YOU HAVE
    ANY INTEREST I CAN FIND OUT WHERE YOU CAN ORDER.

    If you ring Kelvin Hughes Limited in London 071-709-9076 they will
    supply you with what you want where you want it......I think that they
    also have branches in the US. The story about them as a company ids
    that they were the people who sold Columbus his clock......

There used to be a place in Boston called Hub Nautical Chart & Ship
Supply, where I once bought charts for the Dalmation coast (they were a
bit dog-eared, and coverage was spotty, as you might expect....) Nautical
Needs, Inc is listed at their old address today, so who knows what their
schtick is now -- 200 High St, Boston (617-426-9471). They used to have
charts of *everywhere* charts were made of, and just riffling through
their drawers was a small adventure.

Alternatives include The Armchair Sailor in Newport (1-800-292-4278) --
very complete and equally helpful; they ship anywhere. Also Boxell's
Chandlery at 68 Long Wharf, Boston (617-523-5678).
