1600.0. "Lord Nelson Info ??" by CGHUB::THUET () Mon Sep 17 1990 11:50

    I've recently spent considerable time looking at Hans Christians,
    both in Newport and Annapolis. Just as I was approaching a decision
    along comes a LORD NELSON, spotted recently in Little Harbour, NH.

    The boats are incredibly identical and both are Taiwan built. The
    only info I have so far is that the Lord Nelson is imported through
    Seattle.

    Does anyone have any additional info on these beautiful blue water
    cruisers. The owner I spoke with at Little Harbour has not had
    any offshore experiences as yet.

    Thanks,
    Bob

1600.1Hans Christian vs Lord NelsonSWAM3::MILLMAN_JAI'd rather be cruising......Mon Sep 17 1990 17:2016
    The yard that produced the Hans Christian MK II now produces the the
    Lord Nelson. The yard does not own the mold but produces the boats on
    contract. I have a MK II and I am some what familiar with the Lord
    Nelson having know the people who started the company and seeing some
    of the early boats. I have had my H-C to Mexico twice and spent a year
    in the South Pacific with it. Additionally I have been living aboard
    the boat since 1982 and I'm in the process of getting ready (2 more
    years) for an extended curise.

    If I can be of help you can contact me at DTN: 531-4742 or E-Mail @LAO

    Hope I can help,

    HI BOB, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT EITHER BOATS. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE YOU
    AWARE IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY OF THIS. IF YOU EVER INTEND TO CAPTIAN ONE
    OF THESE BOATS FOR HIRE IN THE U.S. ....YOU CAN'T. THERE WAS SOME FAIR
    TRADE ACT PASSED IN THE 60'S I BELIEVE THAT ONLY ALLOWS BOATS
    MANUFACTURED IN THIS COUNTRY TO BE USED FOR HIRE.
    JUST IN CASE YOU ARE THINKING ON THOSE LINES.
    BY THE WAY HOW DID YOUR RUDDER TURN OUT?

     I own a Hans Christian 48T, and I assume you looked at my sister ship
    at the Newport show.

    Hans Christian is located at Port Annapolis, Bembe Beach Road. They
    appear to be very nice people at first, but CAVEAT EMPTOR; they are
    pirates of the first order, so if you deal with them CYA!!

    Inspite of all this, the boat is a sturdy, well handled, off shore
    cruiser, and is very comfortable to live aboard. If you have any
    questions, give me a call at DTN 365-5906.

1600.4LN is a great boatDLOACT::CLEVELANDMon Sep 24 1990 19:0517
    I've looked at two Lord Nelson's VERY closely before deciding to by
    our Alden 36. The LN, HC, and Alden all look to be built from the
    identical mold. The LN has a slightly more upgraded interior than my
    Alden did, and both had porter berths, which were quite beautiful.
    The LN's we looked at were utterly bullet-proof. Beautiful, solid
    boats. One was an '82, the other an '84 I believe. If we had the $$$,
    we definately would have bought the Lord Nelson, but the difference of
    $50K for the slightly different interior and very minor upgrade in
    interior appointments didn't make sense to us.

    If you find one in great shape and a good price, seriously consider it.
    If you have any Alden 36's around look at those as well (also the
    HC's). Get an idea of the differences in each, then make up your mind.
    If you want to talk about what I found, I'm at DTN 486-6496.

    Good hunting!
