1579.0. "Force V rigging details?" by CRBOSS::BEFUMO (IRAQnophobia) Mon Aug 13 1990 13:18

    I just picked up an AMF Force V this weekend. The hull is in nice
    shape, but it's missing mast, boom, sails, and rigging (well, the
    bottom half of the mast is there, but that's it). Does anyone have any
    details on how these things are rigged (I understand it's almost
    identical to a Laser). What I'd like to find out is the mast height,
    boom length, etc. Can I assume that it uses an unstayed mast (don't
    see any chain plates)? Does it use a headsail? I figure that even if I
    can't find a used rig, with a little data I could probably come up with
    something that will work (ever seen a 14' brigintine? ;-} ). thanks.

1579.1Force V rigging detailsKALI::VISSERFri Aug 24 1990 14:1326
    A friend just loaned me his Force V. I'm not completely familiar with
    it yet, but I can give you some detail on the standard rig, assuming
    there exist no variations on the example I have.

    The rig is that of a cat boat, i.e., triangular mainsail and no head
    sail. The mast is not supported by stays or shrouds. The sail has a
    pocket along the luff into which the mast is slipped before stepping.
    The boom is atached to the mast about a foot above the deck via a pin
    that swivels up and down and which fits into a hole in the end of the
    boom. The boom swivels left and right by the mast rotating in the
    mount. The sail is 17'8" along the luff, the mast about twenty total
    in three telescoping sections of extruded aluminum tubing. The boom
    has a built in outhaul tackle of stainless cable that leads back
    through the boom to the gooseneck terminating at a single block. The
    rig additionally consists of the mainsheet tackle, boom vang, and
    cuunningham.

    If it would help you can come over and examine it, take measurements,
    etc.  Send mail,

    Regards,

    John

    Thanks so much for your trouble. That should provide enough for me
    to cook something up if I can't find the proper rig. Thanks again.
