1562.0. "- WANTED - Sunfish Parts!!!!" by TOLKIN::DEMOSS () Thu Jul 19 1990 13:52

I have a BARE hull of a Sunfish. I am looking to refit it, I need EVERYTHING.
(Mast, Sails, Rigging, Center Board, Rudder, and whatever else they come with)
If anyone knows of any or all parts in various conditions, please let me know.
I would also make parts if any plans are available.. I have heard that I can
buy everything for approx. 200-300 bucks??? (from the person that sold me the
hull) Anyway I figured that thru the notes conferences I should be able to
come up with the rest of the parts at a reasonable price??? I will try to
refit the boat this way first but would like to try sailing it before the end
of the season. Also I will probably need a trailer as I don't think that my
'85 LeBaron will haul it on the roof?? Although, I may try it!!!

If anyone can help,,,,

Thanks.

I suggest you read note 1058.*. I don't know about buying everything for
$200-$300 because a new sail will cost you $179 for a standard sail and $279
for a North/Fogh. To stay in the $300 range you will need to find a good price
on a used sail. Cranford Boat and Canoe Company (250 Springfield Avenue,
Cranford NJ 07016, 201-272-6991) has an advertisement in the Summer issue of
the class magazine where they are offering $25 for old sail trade-in. They
could be a good source of a inexpensive used sail.

1562.2I need Sailfish partsMSCSSE::FRENCHBill French ZKO3-3/X8 381-1859Tue Jul 31 1990 10:2214
    I am in a similar situation to .0. I purchased a Sailfish ( wooden hull,
    wooden "mast", which isn't close to a Sailfish mast, and sail at an
    auction Sunday for a very modest sum. As this is what I learned to sail
    on 30 years ago, I couldn't resist.

    Although I'm in the doghouse (I now own 6 boats), I am looking
    either for sailfish plans or a mast, daggerboard and rudder.

    If anyone knows of someone with Sailfish parts in their barn
    that they are willing to sell, or let me see to copy, I would
    appreciate it.

1562.3And yet another variation on this themeCRBOSS::BEFUMOIRAQnophobiaWed Aug 08 1990 10:273
    This weekend I'll be picking up a freebee Force-5, which, I understand,
    also needs just about everything from the hull out. Any additional
    info on getting this outfitted on a budget will be greatly appreciated.
1562.4Still looking!!!!!!!!TOLKIN::DEMOSSThu Aug 09 1990 12:2520
Well its been more that three weeks and I have almost finished with the repair
of the hull.... I have had two leads on parts, on the southern coast of Ct.
( as apposed to the northern coast 8^) ). Actually if someone wants new parts
it seems to be less that half price if your in the area,,, and if it comes to
that I may just take the weekend to see Mystic Seaport again and go on down to
get them.. Anyway, back on track.... I still need information leading to the
launch of this "mighty" Sunfish.. Does anyone know of a Sunfish "club" in
eastern Mass??? That may be a place to start..??

I have checked out a couple of places, (note 1058.7). Goodhue Marine, only new
parts,, and Needle Loft in Ct. They sent me to the "Boat Deck" in the same
general location. They have some parts but would not give me a price but
indicated that they are definetly the best prices that I will find!! Come on
down he said... I indicated that it may be a little far to go to check the
best prices. He said that they dont ship used parts..

Still look'n!!!!

1562.5Its Almost Done!!!!TOLKIN::DEMOSSWed Aug 14 1991 17:0718

    Well I have just about finished the refirb of the SunFish!! I will be
    putting the final finish coats of paint on the rudder/tiller assembly
    that I had to make. As it turns out, it was much simpler to make it
    than I thought... It may not be exactly the same as factory parts but
    I bet it will sail!!! I got the mast and sail assembly by buying a
    homemade "sunfish-like" boat.. The center board I picked up used, an
    older model that's not the best for performance... The only thing I
    need yet is a trailer to get it to the water, and I may have a line on
    that this week. If this trailer deal works out I will have met my goal
    of less than $300. !!!! Its taken a while but I MAY be in the water
    this weekend... Except for the rudder assembly, that I made,
    everything but the hull came from the notes conferences..

    thanks for the help..
